Howdy Boom Jockeys!

There is an announcement concerning the high ping values that you find in-game at the upper left of your screen. There isn't much additional information on the article. However, if you want to see the fancy web page you can click on the hypertext.

After the release of Update 1.14, you may have noticed an increased ping value in the game client during battle.

Why it happened: With the release of Update 1.14, we performed technical maintenance aimed at improving the quality of the game. At the same time, in addition to network delays, additional time for server processing was added in the ping calculation system (this time wasn't previously taken into account). As a result of maintenance, the actual connection quality for players remained the same or improved, but the new ping values could cause confusion.

Next Steps

Players are accustomed to determining the connection quality by the already established ping ranges, and we want to keep that familiarity. Therefore, we will bring the visual display of ping back to the previous system in the next server update, while keeping the new optimization mechanisms.

We apologize for the temporary inconvenience.

When the update went live I have noticed the past couple days that the in game performance has decreased, vehicle keeps moving after keys are released or take just that brief moment to start moving again. Only then did I notice the indicated ping had gone from <50ms to reading 150ms. I am sorry but this feels like WG is gaslighting actual issues with their servers brought about by the update. Its happened before, and would not surprise me from a company with constant "communication errors" and "no miscommunication" to put out this statement. Furthermore, what is the point of listing a ping value or an FPS value that is not an accurate representation of performance. WG has a guide on how to use 3rd party software to test game connection. If you start to fudge what the in game ping values are then how can problems be diagnosed with outside tools?

But how can that be when krzy tells us this??

I'm sure krzy knows exactly what they're talking about and could answer any questions we might have.

I noticed that too.

My ping value listed in the top is almost double. However, it feels no different than it did before, so I figured it had something to do with the calculation of the value and less to do with actual changes in network performance. Guess I was right, cool.

What's the motivation here? Why would WG fudge the ping values to be HIGHER? So they can scam everyone into thinking their servers are WORSE?

We all know Premium accounts get preferential ping values.  The more $ spent, the less hubs you have to deal with.  Where did I leave my credit card now...

i just read the article, are yall braindead its not visual and either peoples ping didnt change or it got worse its not visual how dense can you be to just say hey its visual and it can be all confusing. Its not confusing at all the host server and the host machine are experiencing traffic issues. Stop spreading the cap  the actual connection quality for players remained the same or improved<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< mega cap, all the cap no syrup.

A better question would be, what's the motivation to change the 'process' of calculating and communicating ping values in-game without saying anything about it?  Do you honestly think people wouldn't notice the value change without questioning why?  If it was an intentional process change, they would of been better served by telling people during the patch of this 'change'. Further, if it makes no difference, why do it in the first place?

Besides, if you have good ping, say 20-40ms and it jumps to 80ms, you wouldn't necessarily 'feel' much difference.  But those that are on the cusp of effect, say 80ms and it jumps to 150ms, you will notice a difference.

The EU servers have also been experiencing a lot of problems - they were going to get a patch to fix 'technical issues', but has since been delayed or something. This isn't just a NA thing.

Well that might explain why I have 60ms suddenly it jumps up to 200ms and have lots of packet loss, never seen this before, please fix it

Ping is the lowest priority of network traffic.  It's also the best indicator of over all network health because of it's low priority.  If the ping sample is decreased the time posted doesn't jump as much.  Increase sample and it jumps around with extremes.

If it is simply the value of the number that needs to be adjusted, THEN WHY DOES MY GAME PERFORMANCE ALL OF A SUDDEN SUCK WITH THIS LATEST UPDATE??? And I am not the only player with the issues! If WG thinks we were complaining about a numbered value and that they can just adjust said value to ease our minds they are wrong! They must think we are idiots. I never reported the "value" of the ping being high, I reported my game performance being reduced AND the ping value just happened to coincide with the bad performance. Another issue just swept under the rug by WG because they don't know why it is happening.
