A year or so ago, I decided to play some WOT again, and soon unlocked my next tier in the British tree.... The Black Prince. I have heard that this is a good sidescraper, but since I haven't played in so long I wouldn't know the first thing about properly playing this tank. I need either a visual guide, or an excellent textual guide. (I'm more visual).

Sincerely,

Some random 2012er of this game.

Right-Click, Sell, Confirm.

Start some other tank line.

Problem solved.

(Not even kidding. Seriously. Just do it.)

Edit: Also, in before someone with a 46% WR in it comes along praising what a good tank it is. The only redeeming quality is it leads to the Conq eventually, but you can use blueprints now to get that if you want it.

Blue Prints and/or FreeXP are the best ways to grind this tank.

As a 49%er I can confirm that I skipped from tier 5 to tier 8 on that line. Blueprints and free XP are what you want here.

The Black Prince is one of the worst tanks. Period. Work on some other tank line while you save up blueprints and free xp. Don’t worry about pausing your progress grinding up the tiers or anything, the game isn’t any more fun at tier 10 than tier 4 if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Might be because you are mainly a light tank player that the Black Prince didn't click with you?   Just a guess, not a provocation.

OP, like some others have said, use FXP and blueprints to get past it if that's your intention.  If you need to play it some to get out of it, use XP boosters.

I played it a good long while ago and I can't say it was a lot of fun by any means.  But as is my thing, I played 50+ battles with it, focusing on trying not to be the first target the opposing team targets and I did okay.   Tried not staying in a single location for long while keeping the gun active as much as possible.

IMO though, some of the most interesting play in this game is when you take a tank widely viewed as being bad and try to play it so that your team benefits from you being there.   This as opposed to playing a tank that's perceived as better than it's peers or even OP.  When you do well with a good tank, is it you, the tank, or a bit of both?    When you do well with a bad tank, well, it just might have a bit more to do with your play and that might feel more satisfying.   Not that I'm trying to talk you into continuing because you have to do your own thing.

Blueprints past it. Dont Free XP it, you gonna need that to get a better gun for the Caernarvon. Cause that 17pdr on Defender and Skoda T-56 is CBT inducing.

Otherwise, load only prem ammo, sidescrape at 25' max angle, dont expose any frontal part of your hull to any tank past tier7, and dont ever stand on the front line. Let the bigger heavies take the hits.

The BP is not that bad.  Learn where to shoot and you minimize you need for gold spam.  It's one of the few vehicles that I've been able to ACE.

It's an objectively garbage tank and the ace requirements are low as a consequence.

Black Prince is a fun tank, though I have not played it since I finished grinding that tech tree line, FV215b. That was close to the date when the FV215b was replaced.

For the BP, it is always flat is justice! Always stay on flat ground as even a slight bump will have a big effect on the gun depression.

While I had no love for the Black Prince, it does lead to some excellent tanks - tier IX Conqueror, tier X Super-Conqueror.

Both worth grinding the Black Prince.

To the OP: The Black Prince is a city-brawler. Try side-scraping. It is too slow for open-fields. But, it has better gun-depression and MUCH better turret armor than the Churchill VII, and makes ridge-work possible (albeit not ideal).

Like others have said... dont... its awful, in every sense of the word. If you so much as roll over a pebble as you are driving you get full bloom on the reticle.  Its slow, horrific alpha damage, bad armor (150mm flat plates on the front in multiple spots), terrible pen for a tank that needs to play as a TD pretending to be a heavy, poor camo rating etc..  Only decent thing about the tank is the RoF and and dispersion and turret armor is good if you can get hulldown.and hide that cuopla somehow.
