[CT] Update 1.15 Common Test - Berlin Rework

Update 1.15 Common Test is live, and this one's all about the Berlin map.

Introducing a host of balancing as well as quality of life changes aimed at improving visual fidelity, the Berlin rework should provide for a more balanced gameplay experience.

Personally, I'm quite excited to see the giant field of doom receiving some much-needed cover. I think it'll give Medium Tanks a nice playground where they can duel with other Mediums, doing Medium things instead of essentially duking it out with the heavies or yolo-charging the field.

I had a paragraph typed out but it's pointless so I'll just say this - I've given up on WG and good map design.  You guys clearly can't do it...whoever you have working on maps.   Maybe others disagree with me but I'm pretty sure a lot of people won't.

 

They take WAY TO LONG to come out only to then still be trash and go back into testing or rework months later.  If they are such a challenge to create then why does WG seemingly have such a small team working on it when we get 50 new premiums a year?

 

Anyway...

 

Edit:  I also love how every tree and bush that a good player who understands vision mechanics would use has been removed.  Big open field with buildings to go to and no bush/tree cover for sneaky tactics in the actual field...yup, solid rework.

WG isnt really into open play.

They live for the 3 corridors on their maps, whether it is broad or narrow they live for the 3 corridor rule.

Doesn't matter, you'll still get Mines or Ensk or Abbey ten times for every one game on Berlin.

This is fine. "sniping" in this game means sitting at the back and waiting for someone to get bored enough to run into your gun.

Long live Redshire and Murovanka and the map design team that created them!

 

 

EDIT: Just looked at the article, and the changes to Berlin look promising. I'll reserve judgement until they make it in the game and get played a bit.

Please hire players to design maps for you.

 

This is better but the fact this map made it through rounds of testing when it literally can be won with 2 micro positions is sad. Its been 10+ years just hire some people who actually play the game.

Berlin was already a bad map for sniper tanks as pretty much no one went field, except maybe at lower tiers, and you just ended up with sniper tanks on both sides sitting on their butts waiting for someone to maybe get spotted. At least with the changes some more gameplay might be encouraged on that part of the map giving the sniper tanks something to do, even if they don't have as many bushes to hide in.

Also the color corrections are nice.

Why do you call maps that you alter "improved"?  Every maps you have ever changed, has been to remove as a user said above a place for sniper TD's to find cover.  You will on some maps remove all the leaves and leave a tree with none.  You increase height of certain areas so taller tanks are spotted easier.  You actually remove bushes, trees and other cover spots.d

 

I know people consider sniper TD's as campers but at the same time many of the TD's don't stand a chance if they have no cover and once they fire are exposed.

 

It is more like some members, mostly your loyal wallet warriors and those who have WG back changes are made for them and not for the entire community.  I won't try it as I doubt player feedback would be factored in, as the vote always is more people in favor than not in favor and we are never given any details on how many people voted, how many were using alternate accounts,l how many have influence with you and what were comments left, which means no transparency in the process.

With all these changes you made light tanks pointless on this map.... hm. I feel like WG doesn't want light tanks apart of this game at all with all the maps and recent changes made to the game. Since there are barely any places left to scout.

Lots of games you don't get any lights on your team anymore on any map. WG like Russian meds and heavies - everyone else can get [edited].

Something about this update is killing my FPS.  I open the alt tab menu to switch tabs, and the game plays at the normal fps in the background. However, when I close that the game goes back to 1 fps.  I lowered the graphics from HD Utlra to Medium, but that hardly helped at all.  By the time the frames go back to normal, the game is already done.  The game says it's playing at over 200 fps, but I know what 5-10 frames looks like.

Well I’m glad they’re redesigning the map as the current one is nothing short of awful. It’ll be interesting to try out the new changes. But what I don’t get is why all of the deforestation? Are the map geeks there at WG allergic to leaves and shrubbery? #scoutlove

Berlin map had to be adjusted to alter the passive play on the south side. They added some buildings for cover and every change to that map is a good addition besides the change to remove 90% of the bushes in the middle. That is the only thing I personally do not like as it makes the middle seem pretty stale and very passive as anything that will get lit up in those trenches will be exterminated by either the snipers and/or arty since there is basically no concelment in the middle, making it a dead zone.

This is only an observation from the screenshots, so I hope once I play it I will have a more positive opinion.
