I have been struggling with this mission for a bit now and looking for some advice on how to approach it. The mission is: destroy 3 crew or internal modules for 3 games in a row. Destroy 5 crew or internal modules for honors. Its part of the Russian and Chinese set of missions.

I've looked at various guides and such, but I can't remember when the HE changes happened and I feel like most of the guides are out of date. Is using high caliber HE guns still the way to go? I've tried 268-v4, good damage but no crits. The WZ 111G - FT I figured might get better MM against chars, skorps, and su 130 which is does and I pen at least a few every game but very few crits. I've tried russian mediums hoping a higher rate of fire would work. Absolutely nothing so far is working for me. I would really appreciate advice from anybody who has done this mission recently, especially after the HE changes.

I guess skipping it is an option, I have all 8 orders from the two tanks before the 279e.

It's basically a lottery. Try to shoot at crew member locations and hope you win it.

Would using Arty help, or is that more modules than crew hits?

Play medium tanks and dont shoot HE. Flank and shoot engine decks and back of turrets. Also, stay alive to kill arty at the end, since they almost always result in at least one crit.

Your best bet would be to download a hitzone skin(they arent illegal) and use something with high module damage like a 705a. Make sure the crew has deadeye trained too as it will increase the chances of an internal crit. Also as always RNG will screw with you since it is in every aspect of the game, just be patient and it will happen.

This is also Part of the reason why the missions for crits need to be reworked since the HE changes they take wayyyyy more than the norm amount of games it should take a skilled or experienced player to get them done.

EDIT: I forgot to add that drowning someone gives you all the crew as crits :), You can either Shoot their track off when they are drowning or just push and hold them in.

Use a relatively fast-firing gun that's still a decent enough caliber (100+?) and fire HE At viewports where possible and such to deliberately try to damage crews. Ignore penetrating hits with it, it feels like HE Is less likely to get internal crits if it pens as opposed to non-pens. Otherwise.. just hope. Don't gimp yourself into strictly firing HE Though.

My suggestion would be to use arty....but only using the 2nd shell type. That's the one that will do internal damage. And AFAIK, shooting "next to" a tank might still be better than actually hitting them.

Another suggestion would be to fire only Premium ammo. I've found that Premium ammo tends to have more of a chance for internal damage (based on being hit by them).

And, it doesn't hurt to ensure you have "Deadeye" trained on your Gunner....for the extra chance of internal damage.

Premium ammo has no difference on getting crits, other than the fact it just has higher pen.

Well, it pens more often, so yea it would.

I personally would use something with a fast reload and high pen.

The higher pen would give it more chances to do a crit if I understand how the mechanic works correctly. I think if a round has more pen it goes farther into the target after if hits, which could potentially allow it to damage more internal things.

I understand that, which is why I specifically mentioned that.  Was just clarifying in case people thought that a prem round actually causes more criticals just for being premium.

For all of these, use the wayback machine to join 'certainClans' two years ago and discover the magic of the SA server.

There are a few people good enough and lucky enough to pull off these missions - but the number of (e) 's on the server is far greater than the number of players actually good enough to solo the missions.

Deadeye skill on your gunner, Eagle Eye on your commander, aim for hull MG ports to hit radiomen, and cupolas to hit commanders…

Thanks for all the tips and advice for this mission, but I think it might have be one I use order. Large caliber HE doesn't do anything, arty is incredibly inconsistent. Get bad maps, then RNG just to hit stuff and more RNG to get the crits and neither HE shells seem to get many of them. High module damage tanks like TD's or 705a are rough. 6 shots from the 705a is around 4k damage depending on rolls which isnt super easy, and you need a crit on half of those pens which just isn't happening for me. Russian mediums have been most promising, but I've nearly 3 marked the T-62a this weekend and haven't even gotten 2 games with the required crits. 3-4k damage is like 10-12 pens depending on roll which means 1/3 - 1/4 of shots need crits and they just don't come up, makes me want to pull my hair out :(

I don’t know about that. I’m sure some people bought their way to the 279 but if I can manage to solo grind the missions I think most people could. It just takes time and luck, and someone put out a strategy for doing it so you only had to actually complete one line with honors for the 279 (if you did all of the other campaign lines with honors to get whatever it was you could skip missions with). An alternative was completing two lines without honors, which is what I did. If I recall correctly the difference between just completing the -15 missions and completing them with honors was getting an extra ace game (something like 2 Ms in 20 games vs 3, something along those lines).

The 279 missions are definitely harder to do than the 260 missions, but they are pretty doable for decent players.

My advice would be to try to start fires. They cause a lot of critical hit damage and it seems that a lot of people run food nowadays.
