Media outlet Gamespot – hard at work conquering the battlefields of World of Tanks the past few months – have now offered up their review of the game. World of Tanks has received a score of 8/10, the best score given by the outlet to a Free-to-Play game ever.

Check out some of what the folks at Gamespot had to say about World of Tanks, or head over and read the full review!

World of Tanks is a great, accessible shooter that you'll probably end up spending some money on even though you don't have to.

Hear the title, see a few screenshots, and you could be forgiven for assuming that World of Tanks is a simulation game inaccessible to anyone who doesn't know the difference between a T20 and a T29. That's not the case at all though; World of Tanks is a shooter first and foremost, with uncomplicated controls and a relatively sedate pace that make it easy to get into. Furthermore, it's a free-to-play game that, while loaded with plenty of ways for you to spend money, can be enjoyed for countless hours without ever doing so. World of Tanks wouldn't be difficult to recommend even if reaching for your wallet was a prerequisite, so recommending that you give it a try for free is a no-brainer.

World of Tanks battles may last less than 15 minutes each, but this is a game that you're likely to lose hours, days, and weeks of your life to once you start playing. Don't be surprised if you're tempted to spend a little money on it at some point as well; you can absolutely have a great time playing for free indefinitely, but dropping a dollar here and there to train crew members or to transfer research points between tanks is money well spent. Also good value is the recently released retail copy of the game which, for $20, gets you $30 worth of in-game credits, gold, and a T2 tank. You should obviously check out the game for free before going out and buying that, but once you've decided that you want to play more of the game, the retail box is a good way to add to your in-game garage and bank balance early on. The important thing is that whether you're playing for free or spending a small fortune on premium projectiles, World of Tanks is a blast.

Getting an 8 a GameSpot is pretty good.

hmmm...

I have to agree.

This was a very detailed and concise report. There was a slight glossing over of the match maker problem; but I suspect WG got quite a bit of feedback about that particular problem from GameSpot.

Getting such feedback from GameSpot AND from the US moderators (Chief, General, Geae, ChrisK, Tanitha, and a couple others) must have FINALLY convinced the WG devs the match maker DID  indeed need to be reworked.

I thank we players have not yet thanked those Moderators enough for what they have done. We should proclaim our appreciation of their efforts a lot more often.

It will be interesting to see what the NA server player count does over the next few days on the back of this review.

I agree. It would be very interesting to see if this review has an effect on the player base.

A large number of competitive titles are releasing their newest versions, soon. I wonder if this review would effect the player loss as those games come online.

He did forget about the fact that the game becomes a grind later on, but other than that it was a nice, simple, and good review. The grind of course being fun, but being a big component in most rpg-like games anyway.

I find that the whole matchmaking problem tends to be so overblown anyway. While definitely a problem, I don't feel it's as big an issue and people make it out to be. My overall experience with World of Tanks tends to be very good, it definitely isn't destroyed by it as some people make it out to be.

Overall I've been enjoying World of Tanks and am looking forward to see if the extra attention given by this Gamespot review will bring more people in. Would've been nice to have had a video review as well though. They are very nice for showing off games (and YouTube views).

This game is about an 8. "Tanks" just fits a man's sense of what a good video game can have in it. Then when you put other people playing it at the same time together the game becomes even better. Match making in random battles could be more fair though(gold ammo, too many platoons on one side). That would be asking too much though.

It would have an effect if battlefield 3 didn't just come out.
