I like to live dangerously lol, most seem to think the ammo will set itself on fire without a wet ammo rack.
my line of thought with most of my tanks is that damage is going to happen to it no matter what, and the best way to minimize it is to drive smart and keep an eye on the mini map..
and with that I devote my perks to things that can maximize the damage I can do as much as possible.
rolling with Vents, Vstab and a Rammer
Commander: repair 97% (recon planned)
Gunner: Deadeye 97% (snap shot planned)
Loader: Safe Stowage 97% (repairs planned)
Driver: Smooth Ride 97% (controlled impact planned)

That is so not true!
If you have 1,300 hitpoints and someone shoots you for 250hp of damage then you have 1,050 hitpoints left and can continue fighting.
If you have 1,300 hitpoints and someone shoots you detonating your ammo rack then your tank is destroyed and you will earn less xp & credits as well as the possibility of your team losing because of the damage you couldn't deal to the enemy.
Before getting a Wet Ammo Rack I had been destroyed by my ammo rack detonating over a dozen times. I have been in a fight that I thought I could win despite facing 3 enemy tanks, but the Slugger fired 1 shot and my entire 1,300 hp was gone! I'll stick with the Wet Ammo Rack and my tank will be able to continue fighting, even after taking a hit or 2.

I would take either clutch braking or off road driving as one of you driver skills improves the agility alot. Deadeye is a meh skill if it worked like it said but its even worse considing you will get more 0 damage module hits like it is. Brothers in arms is a good skill to take if your using vents.

70 games in so far and never had a ammo rack detention on top of that only even had my rack damaged 5-6 times.

My clan bought me this tank today, over 30ish games I've been racked once and had the rack damaged once. The type doesn't seem any more prone to rack damage than my other tanks, but it's rack does like to go off more when it does get hit.

I'm running V Stab, Vents, and Rammer at the moment. Out of the 80 or so games I've played on it I have yet to get ammo racked. Sacrificing another useful skill to save my life maybe 2% of my games at most isn't a huge deal. When I get the crew skill room for it I'll train safe stowage, but until then, I should manage. I guess If you try to avoid getting hit on the side of your turret then you will get ammo racked, but I still have yet to have it happen.

I just got my Type this past weekend and put Vents, Rammer and GLD on it. Should I switch the GLD to the V.Stab? Will it make that much difference?

This is my set-up, in over 500 games I might get racked 1 or 2 out of every 100.

glad to know im not alone on my stance with the wet ammo rack..
I have been racked once so far, and thats because of driver error lol.

I have the same experience. I've now got 49 battles in my new Type, and I've been racked once - which was completely my fault for exposing myself stupidly!
I'm loving it so far!! Currently sitting on a 61% win rate too...
I run VSB, Rammer and Vents. Crew training secondary in Repair, Repair, Repair and Off-road for the driver.

Wet ammo rack is the most important
It really isn't if you mind your positioning. In over 300 battles I've been on shot due to ammo rack explosion less than 5 times. Now that safe stowage is available, I think that is better solution than the WAR. It's personal preference really, but I don't see the Type 59 being any more prone to ammo rack damage than other 'ammo rack sensitive' tanks. Watch that right side and the back of the turret.

Its one of the most palyed tanks in my guarage. And from my experience I think wet ammo is a must on this one
I used to get amoracked in every other battle. And explosion of the tank due to ammorack every 3 or 4 ammoracks.
I had 2 consecutive explosions so I placed a wet ammo. And upgraded the perk/skill that protects my ammo
since then I rarely get ammoracked and never had tank explosion (in my last 100 or so battles) and my rates went up in that tank. And btw this is the only tank out of my 30 tanks that got wet ammo rack
Plus I drive the tank as assault tank and always get into dog fights. So I put a rammer and a stabeliser on thr tank. And now this tank rocks.
IMO this is the best combination and plus the WIKI on the tanks supports it too.

I have run the type 59 for about 6 month now. I have on it camo net/binocs/rammer. then for skill choose camo for all then i use recon commander and the radio distance for radio man safe stowage for loader and smooth ride for driver.my 3rd set i mixed it up a bit and did repair for all. almost done with 3rd skill. gona be think bout what to do bout 4th soon. the camo net and camo skills keeps me camo'd very well. especialy when i stay "behind" the bush im hiding in instead of in it.im able to fire and remain camo'd after firing alot. i can see by thier turret rotating left and right searching for who hit them that i have remained camo'd. also my view distance is now maxed out with the binocs recon and radio man view perk. no need for suspension becuase tank is maxed out already and isnt slowed by added equipment. also found that the governer has no real effect either. it wont activate on this one. you can add it but why bother.
Good Luck and most importantly HAVE FUN!!!

It doesn't need the wet ammo rack. This tank needs offensive equipment to maximize your driving and damage dealing capabilities. I get ammo racked on russian tanks more often than the type. I have yet to get an ammo detonation death in the type in a long time. Hell, the only thing I really have to deal with is my gun getting destroyed and my driver killed every battle. Apparently people don't know how to shoot for the commander's copula, but you can just avoid that by driving at tanks with the turret at an slight angle.

Yep. I've been saying this for a long time. Positioning is everything with the Type 59 to avoid ammo rack damage/detonation. On rare ocassions where I do get kaboomed I know it's coming because I've done something risky or dumb that exposes that right side or rear of the turret.
WAR is a waste of an equipment slot on this tank in my opinion. Vents, rammer, and vertical stabilizer for me. Also, with quality oil and clutch braking, the Type turns on a dime. My next driver skill will be off road driving and then I think the mobility issues with the Type will be addressed.

Hi all, I recently bought the 59 and am considering which upgrades to get for it. I already have the ammo loader to reduce reload time but don't know which other two to pick. I'm leaning more towards crew venting and vertical stabilizer, but am curious about the optical equipment as well. i'm not much of a sit and snipe player, so camo probably isn't very important to me...

400+ battles in Type 59. My ammorack detonated once in that period. More annoying is damage to the ammorack, you nearly always have to fix that no matter what and may lack that repair kit later in battle for tracks or gun. I use vents/rammer/stabilizer and never felt need to switch to WAR. I try to prevent ammo rack damage by circling enemies with my left side facing them rather than the right and it was huge improvment in my gameplay. I see many Type 59 drivers do the same mistake over and over again in 1v1 battles, where they show me their right side to get shot, or even sniping while being angled towards the wrong side. I even went the hard way and got BiA as my first set of skills for all crewmen and the ability to outmaneuver other Types outweighs the lack of some ammo rack protection.
I feel it works like in many other games, if you play it too safe, you start lacking in every aspect.
