So
I am charging across the filed at a KV in my T29 with the 105. Fire three shots none of which do any damage. One even hit the toilet. Then I hit him 26% wow great at least its some damage. In the meantime arty hits me and I am toast.
Then last map I hit a T1 Heavy with my IS3 BL9 frontal armour. "They're hit" is called. NOT I repeat NOT "penetration" although I get that a lot. still on 100% Five minutes later a T34 hits me I get a hit indicator but I am still on 100% and have lost nothing hmmmmmmmm.
Its NOT working. If its working as intended then you need to change it............

Okay, great explanation and it seems likely my only problem is this is seeming to occur with my KV-1S more times than not. I hit a PIV at 150 meters in the hull, turret and front plate and did 0 damage. I watched the replay and slowed it down even. I scored hits and yet registered no damage at all. At the end of the match it wasnt listed either but what was listed was a TigerII I hit from about 400 meters and didnt show any damage. Like I said this only happens to that 1 particular Russian tank. Has anything been changed to its damage or hitting power? thx

It's happening more and more, and particularly towards the end of a game in which the enemy team has several tanks left, and my team only a few remaining. My tiers V, VI, VII & VIII heavies will somehow start getting one zero damage pen after another on tanks whose armor is a third or less than the pen rating of my gun. I've also noticed that when I get streaks of 4-6 zero damage pens on a tank early in a game, we ALWAYS lose that game. Something about Denmark comes to mind here ...

Ok im still not understanding the voice error... several occasions have "penetration" hits on lower hull of tanks and shows no damage. now ..,,, saying that i realize my shells usually smaller caliber on a heavier tank. Moreso, i would usually expect "bounce" but seems more often than not i hear "penetration" with 0 damage. You think even a 1% damage hit would suffice in eliviating any confusion here even if the hits were "kit" hits ( ex...vent, optics,.. etc). Or is that too logical thinking?

Sorry, but the original explanation does not hold water with me. Front and rear hits producing 0 pen hits has little to do with track hits. Having been so close to the target that the target ring engulfs the center of the front of the target and still getting 0 pen hit, I find it hard to believe it has anything to do with track hits...

Nice Post.
I was aware that spaced armor and trackhits at stupid angles can create strange penetrating or not penetrating shot.
On top of that I always assumed shots that penetrate but dont do any damage to overall health do most of the time means critical damage to crewmember or modules.
I never actually read into this or tested it for myself ( but i know the module and crewpostions on most tanks). However i assumed that much just because i know hitting the track directly, with or without armor in between does not nescearrily mean that you also did enough damage to really track the tank. Especially with the panther and its stupid 7.5 cm guns thats very frustrating since you will need 3 or more shots to track an tier 8 and above tank, whos track isnt already damaged. My conclusions was that tracks or modules in general have a certain amount of health and only if damage dealt exeeds the modules health that module will be damaged. Or to put it simpler: For every module and crewmeber there is a certain amount of health with two bars in it. First bar. damaged; second bar destroyed, out of order, not working or in case of the ammorack destroyed.
Furthermore i also assmued that if a module is hit and the damage potential of the penetrating shell exeeds the modules health then the remaining damage will go to overall tank health. (although i am not sure on that since i whitnessed module damage and knock outs with and without dmage to overall tank health.)
My naive thoughs where supported by the fact that "Wet Ammo Rack" and other Equpment give a hitpoint bonus to modules .
i was never sure how it really works what the health really is what the rules really are or even if it is based on module and crewmember health or if its just calculated in % chances and so on and so forth.
But I was always sure that critical hits work somewhere along that gerneral conclusion i explained above.
I also noticed that with 7.2. the "NO DAMAGE" shots seemingly increased stupidly, but after giving it some thinking i realized its still the same system with changed voice feedback from the commander.
Although surpriseingly that realizesation didnt take the frustration away.
So am i on the right track or is the hitboxsystem even more mystyrious that i can imagine?

I'm starting to think that the zero damage pen hits are related to problems with the new armor group model. I can't remember seeing this issue before the 16 armor group model was put in the game. I'm starting to think that damage passing through overlapping armor groups is dropping into a blackhole. The damage application engine can't figure out exactly where the damage is supposed to get applied so it discards it. Either that or the interface point between the armor groups is miscalculating armor values in some way to make the interface point a rediculously high value which could be causing a penetrating "bounce".
Still, it is beyond frustrating to punch a hole in a spot on a tank that should hurt them, like the center of the hull, only to do no damage.

I'm a newbie, and was searching the forums exactly for this, it's so frustrating. I keep hitting the enemy for 0 damage!!
And I don't mean few hits, 98% of my hits has 0 damage.
Now if they say "bounced off" or "we didn't even scratch them" it wouldn't be much of an issue, but "penetration" and "went right through" with 0 damage. THIS IS SO ANNOYING!

Sigh 8 no damage pens from 24 shots again with my Lorri, 5 into the side of a m103 turret from about 20 feet! Had 6 in 24 the game before, 3 into the side of a 4% 704! Pretty pathetic when the idiots programming this game are to stupid to undo a massive code error but then again nothing WG does surprises me anymore! (they are so bad that when they ban you in chat it bans map clicks and target T as well, just beyond lazy!) Its to the point where after losing as many games as I have I will neve get WG another penny, not supporting bad programmers who don't care about thier product.. Its just sad that after spending all the time to learn the horribad engine they have to go and add a retarded 1 in 4 shots does nothing bs into the game.

Try to beat this one: from a distance of about 75-80m, I had no less than ELEVEN zero damage pens against the road wheels and drive sprocket of a KV with my T-25. The shots were about even between HE and AP rounds. To top it all off, he suffered no apparent handicap other than being tracked ONCE.

How does 152mm round from 50 meters away cause no damage? Spaced armor is an excuse for poor gameplay mechanics. The sheer force of the projectile can knock off a turret even if you don't penetrate. It's very frustrating when I hit 50-2 with BL10 for 0 damage. The tank should disinegrate not happily slip away. They need to come out and admit the physics are broken.

I just got 13 zero damage "pens" out of 25 shots with my Churchill, in addition to umpteen bounces off the side armor of a lousy StugIII. FIX YOUR GAME!

It's really unfathomable at this point. I 'penetrated' the driver's hatch of a KV with an IS at point blank range just now.
It's just plain broken. I'm sure the devs know there's a problem but they don't know how to fix it. Hence no replies to this thread.

When you are driving a T30 and shoot a tracked leopard in the back, the shell should penetrate the leo, kill all crew members and modules on the way, and continue on its way through the tank... and with some luck, hit another tank.... Instead, what you get? 0 damage
And that happened before the new armor models. The system is broken for a long time, and I've been complaining about it countless times. But the number of 0 dmg hits has increased a lot with the new patches, and people started to notice it too.
No old or new armor model should allow that.

Why not go back to the 8 hit box until you can figure out the 16 hitbox? My thinking is they want you to buy gold ammo to have a chance to damage the tank. The only problem is that people are not going to spend money on it while it is still broke. The poster gave good reasoning, but it does not fit. It is not the "voice", its the hitboxes that are messed up. Fix the game that will bring in money then work on the World of Airplanes. But no, you want to work on the WoA before you fix this game. That is bad business. I enjoy the game, but would like issues like this fixed.

Did they at least change the voice message? "Critical hit" after hitting tracks makes way way more sense than "penetration". And of course "tracked him" would make the most sense of all.
