I have played probably near 100 games in my ferdinand so far and i have to say im extremely disapointed in this TD armor.. 200mm plates in the front, and supposedly 200mm on the super structure.. yet i get penentrated almost every hit even by tanks with real low penetration and from long distances.. My Ferdi has 0 steel wall medals, and yet my Tiger P with the same hull has 20.. 1 tier lower doesnt matter much the queues are practicly the same..
Does anyone else notice this ? The 200mm armor sure doesnt feal like it.. rather getting sick of it quickly..

Did quite well with me. It's pretty flat. Got to keep it at a slight angle. Easier said than done with being able to keep a angle to shoot but still have to try.

I know all about angles... but it doesnt work with this tank.. I bounce tier 5 tanks most of the time but tier 6 and up rarly ever... i dont get it.. the armor on this tank feals like paper to me..

the 10.5 off of the VK4502 still reliably bounces rounds off this tank at range.

lower glacis is pretty weak, so try to hide that, the frontal armor is pretty strong, like the long 88 can't pen typically from my experience. as someone said above, try angling your tank or use tactics such as firing then hiding

I know all about the bottom weak spot but what im saying is, getting shot in the front plates, or on the top portion i see the holes through it, rarely ever do i see ding marks like my tgier P had..
Whatever i guess there is no way to answer thsi question, the numbers say 200mm but i know it sure as hell isnt.

I have had a lot of luck shooting ferdies with HE rounds on the gun mantle. I think they have an armor hole there like the T95.

Just played a game with my friend to test this out.. with his tiger P i bounced with my 128mm cannon 4 outa 10 shots at 150m.. With his 88 he hit me 6 outa 10 shots... Thats what im talking about the ferdi armor is weak... and this was on the plates in the front.

The Ferdi is a TD, not a IS-4. you have to play it carefully. Especially with the 80mm side armor. Only be getting shot when youre near the top of the list and all enemies are in front of you.

While the Ferdi has armour, its still a TD in essence. Snipe with it, use your accuracy and rof to its advantage. Flank tanks that are not expecting you and avoid getting hit. If you do make it late game and haven't been hit, you now have a 1.2k hp pool with a good chance of bouncing shots. If you don't want to do that, just support the push, but never lead, may have armour.

Red area: 200mm @ 25º from vertical.
Green area: 200mm at barely 9º, so for game effects, its just 200mm.
Blue area: 200mm @ 35° from vertical.
Black areas: 100mm @ who cares what angle, 100mm are wet paper at this tier.
There you have, now you know wich parts of ferdis armour are awesome and wich parts suck. Everyone knows this, so everyone shoots the parts they can penetrate. At range, most Tier IX guns have trouble with ferdis armour, but from 100m and on, they have no trouble going through your front 200mm vertical hull and quasi-vertical superstructure.

Makes you wonder why they would choose to make the upper glacius plate thinner than the lower.

I don't think it's so much that, it's the angling of the upper glacis. From medium to short range, I can reliably penetrate the upper glacis with the Lowe and the 128.
The JagdTiger will feel about the same when you get to it. The angled 150mm upper glacis is a little more than 200mm effective armor, so you will bounce some stuff, but as with all tanks, mind your angling.

Not sure why your upset here. When did you think that the ferdi was a heavy tank. Here is a list of your tiers that can pen you frontally T28,T32,ISU152,IS3,Ferdi,Tiger2,Ausf A,Lowe,Panther2. And I didnt even list tier nines. Fact is the ferdi is great against lower tiers but is vulnerable against upper tiers. So I would suggest playing more aggressive only when your top tier.

If you play it right you should survive quite often. This is a great tank.

The Ferdi's armor is great: If it's one of the top three tanks on it's team. If you're in a match with lots of tier 8s, and 9s, that armor is pretty much meaningless.
The Ferdi is one of those tanks that seems to have depressing lows and euphoric highs. Some matches, you'll be one-shot by arty, other matches, you'll be hugged to death by a speedy medium. And then, in other matches, you are an unstoppable god of war, immune to just about everything, and armed with a 128mm deathray.
To get the most out of the Ferdi's armor, I highly recommend a spall-liner. Panicked enemies will spam HE at you in a vain attempt to avoid their (slowly) approaching fate, and a spall-liner helps against those dastardly arty players that love to pick on such a large and (very) slow moving target.

This ^^. People who played the Ferdinand in the past, its a different vehicle now with the revamped matchmaker. My upgraded ferdinand was in nothing but tier 9/10 battles and 200mm of armor means very little there. You have to play back field as if you have no armor if you want to survive. Try to bull your way through as if your armor means something and you'll end up a scrap heap in no time.

It's a German tank, and it's common knowledge that German tanks are very, very bad. Why are you surprised OP? They're only useful for sniping.

^ U are very ill informed sir.
I enjoy my Fredi immensly. As some of the other folks have stated that it has its highs and lows. But overall highs far out weigh the lows.
I have lead assaults with Freidi and came out on the top. It has a situational play stayl.

Hell fire, this TD is awsome.Ive logged 700 battles in it, with close to 400 wins, and have to say it is just a beast.Only thing I have played more is my Lowe ( paid for my T10's).Tilt your armor, and pound away. This thing can take on anything up to T10 w/ no problem, cept a T95 maybe. Those I find are hard to pin, but how often will I run into a T95 in a pub playing a Ferdi, unless I go assault mode, but this rig is so good, I find myself playing in the assault TD mode more & more.Jagd T and Jagd Panther are fun, but for best TD in german line, this rig is the winner hands down.
