T-43 is garbage.
It's a 34/85 with worse matchmaking and the same sub-par DPM(which is even more apparent because of the matches you get in). The entire crew is huddled in the front of your tank, so if you get shot anywhere in the front be prepared for something to break, one or more of your crew dying, or you getting lit on fire... or all of the above. Oh, and your ammo rack happens to be about 1/3rd of your tank, another 1/3rd is your entire engine with even nice gigantic boxes to shoot, if it wasn't easy enough already.
The slight increase in armor is fairly useless, as you have a decrease in turret armor so you can't even rely on hull down sometimes working. If you hull down, your gunner, loader or commander will almost certainly die.
So in essence the T-43 is just a worse 34/85.

T43 doesn't need a WAR...
in my 300 games i have only been 1 shot ammo racked 1 time by a lowe...
that also happened on my very very last game right before i sold it for the T44... what are the odds....

T 34-85 is better than the T-43 as it's got the same gun at a tier lower, while the T-44's got a better gun and various T-54 upgrades. I grinded through the T-43 and after the initial stock tank syndrome, it got to be OK. I just sold it and stuck its crew into the T-44 when I had the credits to get it. Out of the Soviet meds, T-43 is not a keeper like the T-34, T-34-85 or KV-13 are.

So, to be able to mount the top gun, I will need both tracks and turret (Around 15k exp ish total). Which would be the better gun to use in the meantime, on the stock turret, while grinding that 15k exp? The stock 85mm or the derp 122mm?
If you have 200,000cr laying around you can cheat a little. Grind xp for the turret. Then buy the Torsion bars. That will give you enough load capacity to mount the upgraded turret and the D10T. That's what I did.
If you don't want/can't afford to do that, I think the 122 is the best bet til you can get the D10T.

Thoughts? Worth the grind, a dog, piece of poo? Great?
I like mine a lot so far. Just scored a nine kill Boelter's medal yesterday.
It's maneuverable, fairly fast, and hits hard. It hides well, which I think is an undervalued attribute. Camo net and 75% camo crew allows for 1st shot pretty often, and with the 100mm gun that can make for a nice surprise. Gun is big enough to hurt tier 8 heavies.
It is subject to module damage often, and that can get frustrating.
Don't trade shots. Play to shoot first and scoot, wheel around and look for another shot. It's good at flanking and that makes the 100mm gun even more dangerous. Did I mention, don't trade shots?
Have fun.

THIS
T-43 isn't a "terrible" tank, but the gun is nothing special, since at least two tier VIs get it (and the tier V KV gets the similar 107 Zis).
So it ends up being a larger, slower T-34-85 with more hit points.
If you're actually good in this tank, pat yourself on the back. I couldn't wait to move on to the T-44 (which I have enjoyed thoroughly).

I just purchased the T43 the other day and I am working towards purchasing the 100mm gun. With the 85mm gun I still have a 51% win rate, but I am having problems damaging anything at a higher tier (this is a little frustrating). I have quite a bit experience with the 100mm gun on the T34-85 and having this gun should make a BIG difference on this tank. Once fully loaded with a 100% crew, I think this will be a fun tank to drive. It feels like a T34-85 with more HP and durability. (I really enjoy running the T34-85, i.e. fast with a big gun)
I agree that this is a underestimated tank, and that could definately be used to your advantage.

Update: I've been running this tank for a while now; it's a great tank! I like it best as a flanker and support tank. Even on higher tier battles it performs well if you stay behind cover and don't lead the charge (higher tier battles have more earning potential!). It's speed and maneuverability help you to get out of trouble or to the right place on the map. I also have a VK2003DB and the 2 are simular and both fun to play. I make money with this tank and ocasionally have an awesome game.
I don't have the probem others seem to have with ammo racking issue any more than other tanks; I guess the solution is don't get hit and inflict more damage than you receive

The T-43 is, on paper, an improvement on the T-34/85 in almost every way, not a huge improvement in each category but enough that you have to work a lot less hard to achieve the same effect. What ruins it and has only gotten worse with time is the competition. The VK3002DB, the needlegun panther and the T20* are all very significant improvements on their tier 6 counterparts particularly because they often become more specialized at the same time. The T-43 gets none of this, it's not mobile enough to really play the mobile medium, doesn't have the accuracy to snipe really, nor has the armor to brawl it's very jack of all trades master of none.
I sold my T-43 but the Panther still has a place in my garage and is almost finished training up a second crew, the first having gone to fill my Panther II when it's crew moved to my E-50. Likewise I still own a T-34 and recently re-purchased the T-34/85 to try out the good 85 and am finding it lots of fun the T-43's mediocrity leaves it with nothing to really be great at and in the process not very fun.
*don't know about the French stuff, only recently returned after long absence and haven't looked into it enough

I don't particularly like it. Gun is pretty innacurate and takes ages to aim. Mobility is good and it does pack a wallop butrubish armour and long aim time negates any advanatge you get through mobility.

I have to disagree on some parts. If you master the T-43, its really fun. I do agree tho that the competition is fierce however. As long as you play smart, you can kill anything!!

My experience with the T-43.
1. Frontal hits set the tank on fire happen too often. I've had it happen twice in a row one match. This does not happen with the KV-13 or T-44.
2. Side or rear hits always damage the engine. Is the engine made of paper? A lot of matches I'm driving around crippled.
3. Ammo rack from frontal hits. 'nuff said
The T-44 is a big improvement, but its armor is still meh.

Just got the 100mm gun on it today, results of first battle were as follows,
Victory!
Battle: Live Oaks 26 April 2012 12:28:13
Vehicle: T-43
Experience recieved: 4,008 (x2 for the first victory each day)
Credits recieved: 47,385
Battle Achievements: Mastery Badge: Ace Tanker, Reaper, Sharphooter, Top Gun
Not too bad i guess for a mostly tier 8 battle, but alot of luck involved too, ie missing a target and killing the guy hiding in a bush behind him that i couldnt even see

I can't wait to get out of my T43!
Poor accuracy, my driver or gunner never survive a match, and I am never put into reasonable matches, almost all my matches consist of me being the scout for the team. I love my panther, its gun and armor are much better, and it is good at something. The T43 cannot defend against scouts very well, it has little to no armor (I got shot to bits by an M3 Lee today), and it can't hit very hard.

I'm using the 122 on it, I just got it, and its fun to play. I need to get the tracks and might skip the engine for it to grind through it.

I just finished grinding through the T-43 to the T-44. 217 battles, 62% wins, not bad at all.
There are a few big problems with this tank. It's ammo rack and engine are made of glass, the driver and gunner are too delicate, and it's really prone to being set on fire.
It also doesn't have the best gun, armor or speed, but it manages pretty well. I used the idiot gun supporting heavies and it turned out to be pretty effective.
A fun tank all in all.

Its just worse than t-34-85. It has better hull armor, worse turret armor, but is 1 tier higher.
I dont think any of the tier 7s mediums are that good. Panther has solid armor and excellent gun, so its my favorite.
-----------------------------------------------------
I gotta point this out, but the T-43 failed because it couldnt mount anything bigger than 76mm on t-34. It was just uparmored t-34. So why does the t-43 start with a 85mm?

Initially when my T-43 was stock I had one horrific time with it. I think I was 1/3 of the way through the T-44 grind and then the sky opened up and MM seemed to help this tank alot. I literally did the rest of that grind that day. It is okay up until Tier 9 battles, then it is hammered quickly. Just one for the records I used this as a sniper, but I found it way too prone to CS, so its main purpose was to ram scouts...

I really liked T-34-85, now on T-43 i only need engine but the tank is not bad. You just dont get a new gun, but 100mm is more than capable to pen tier 9.
Abandoned soviets meds line last year, now with some free exp got the T-34-85 and now with T-43. I really enjoy boths, but miss the gun depression you have with usa meds and vert stab.
