The public test of version 7.1 has reached its second stage, with 7.1.2 becoming available today for testing. We've also moved the public test server to North America based on your feedback. This should hopefully provide a smoother gameplay experience for you when helping to test out all of the new content and balance changes.

Please remember that the public test server is subject to the EULA and general rules of World of Tanks. The restrictions and punishments are the same as on the official game servers of World of Tanks. Please post all 7.1 related feedback here and bugs here.

Public Test Participation

To participate in the 7.1 public test, you must download the 7.1 public test patch. It is recommended you create a new World of Tanks installation for the public test. For help with your installation, visit this thread.

1. Copy the current World of Tanks folder (must be updated with 7.0) to another place for running the test OR create a new World of Tanks installation for the public test.

2. Download the test #1 update of 7.1 here (209 Mb) and install it over the copied/new installation.

3. Download the test #2 update 7.1 (239 Mb) from here and install it over test #1 of update.

Your World of Tanks account must have been created on or before November 15, 2011 to be eligible for participation in this version of the public test.

Note: The English language localization is currently being tested and will be made available at a later time. For a temporary solution, please visit this thread.

While playing, please also keep in mind that:

• Payments are not accepted on the public test server.
• Credit and experience rates for public test server are multiplied 10 times. All players are given 15k gold for testing purposes.
• Progress won't be transferred to the main NA server.

After meeting with the Clan Wars designers in Minsk this past week, we spoke to them about opening the NA global map for the Oceanic regions. As a result of this, we will be introducing provinces soon to support time zones within these regions and want to get your feedback about the Oceanic and East Asia prime times.

As the Clan Wars Global Map is currently being developed, we would like to know what time zones you want to see included in the global map for these regions.

One really has to hand it to the Russians. When it comes to remembering WWII, they don’t go by half measures. Heck, they even give it a cool name. The Museum of the Great Patriotic War is a case in point, and makes the American National Museum of WWII look kindof anemic.





As with most anywhere else within the Moscow city limits, the best way of getting here is by the metro system. There is something to be said for a public transport system which tells you the time between trains in seconds, not minutes. (The ‘shotclock’ at the platform rarely went over 40 seconds)



The museum is a new building, brightly lit, and comes with a rather impressive (but a bit garish and apparently quite unpopular) spire out front.  I am unsure what to make of the tiberium deposits on the central staircase inside, however. (Granted it could be kryptonite, but if you ever saw what tiberium does to a human body, you will forgive me for not examining too closely). If you start out downstairs, the prime focus is the Hall of Memory and Sorrow.



The books on in the cases contain the names of fallen servicemen. There are some 2,000 pendants and crystals hanging from the ceiling. Fortunately, the symbology of it all is on a sign right next to the entrance, and it’s in English. Indeed, this is one of the few musea in Moscow I went to which had most all the signs with an English translation available.

The hall also sets the mood a bit for the museum. It struck me not as much as a museum, as it was a monument. Not to say there weren’t good artifacts to look at, but it did seem to permeate as a tone.

Along the sides of the Hall are the Panoramas. This really does seem to be a particularly Russian trait, I saw them in a number of places.



I think one would have to consider them more ‘interpretive’ than ‘representative’, but maybe I just haven’t quite gotten the point. I never spent more than two minutes in any one.



When you walk upstairs, that’s the exhibits and artifacts level. Again, the place is clean as a whistle, nice high ceilings and lots of room.  There are no artifacts bigger than an artillery pieces, but we’ll come back to that one. The bi-lingual signage continues, so I got quite an education, amongst other things, on the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in the war.



That gives an idea as to what’s inside. The fun stuff (from our point of view) is located outside, in Victory Park. Hope you brought walking shoes.

If you go back up to the satellite view, as you look South of the museum, you’ll see a bunch of aircraft. Head thataway, the entrance is at the North end of that field.



The multilingual theme continues here. The tanks are, externally, at least, in pretty good condition. I’m not sure how much of this is because the museum is relatively new, and how much is because it gets painted regularly, but I am mildly concerned about the state that they will turn into after being left outside for a number of Russian winters. Memories of Aberdeen Proving Grounds come to mind.



True enthusiasts will be able to see some pretty rare vehicles, such as this T-46 or an Su-76i. The ‘theme’ of the park is ‘The defence of Moscow’, hence vehicles are ‘dug in’, there’s a couple of trenches, and so on. And yes, the MS-1 really is that small.





There is a comple lineup of vehicles, and it’s almost as if everything which the park could grab a hold of is represented to include lend-lease. If you thought the T-46 was rare (ten built), this is the only remaining T-26 mod 1931.



Unfortunately, some of the vehicles are positionined in a more familiar, unfriendly manner in which you are only permitted to see the fronts of the vehicle.



For those who are more inclined towards aviation, they have a nice selection of aircraft, from Messerschmitt to Lavochkin, Aircobra to Hurricane.





However, I’m not entirely sure that the presence of an exhibit necessarily means that the item in question saw service in the Great Patriotic War.



Either that, or the Germans really were hosed at Kursk.

Move further to the SW on the satellite shot, and you’ll see a lake. Yes, the Navy gets some representation at the museum as well.



One of the more intruiguing displays is the concrete destroyer. Apparently the Russians managed to sail or tow a destroyer to Moscow, but once they got it there, they couldn’t quite figure out a reasonable way of getting it the last mile or two to the lake. Finally they decided to simply chop off the superstructure and turrets, and put them on a concrete hull.



But wait! There’s more!



It wasn’t just the Germans that used railway guns. It’s a 305mm TM-3-12 if you’re curious. There’s a certain irony to this one being in Victory Park as they were captured by the Finns and used by them until the end of the war. Curiously, it was still in service in the 1990s. There are a couple of railway-related items in the park.



Continue back NorthEast and you find that they’re creating a little Japanese section. This Type-95 is only the first. A visit to the workshop area (by invitation, sorry) reveals two Type-97s being fixed up.



So, that’s it, right?

No!

There’s a new exhibit opening up, effectively a museum of transportation. Wasn’t open to the public when I was there, but might be now. To get to it, wander back up to the entrance of Victory Park, cross the main road, and go into the basement of one of the buildings on the far side.



It’s a small little facility, has about twenty-five vehicles in it, to include one of Stalin’s limos.



No, that’s not the limo. But they all are in pretty good condition

Anyway, you can spend far more time wandering aroud the place looking at exhibits than I had the time to. You really want to allocate most of a day, at least if you’re the sort of person who takes particular time looking over things which you know you will probably never get to see again. My one concern is that it’s really a summer trip. Granted, perhaps those if you in the Great White North of the continent might be a bit tougher than I, but all that gear sitting outside just strikes me as being more suited to visiting when not being viewed in sub-freezing temperatures.

Well worth a visit, and sets a good bar for other musea to meet.

I decided to attend the Historical battle on December 17th and see what all the excitement was about. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to spice up their World of Tanks experience.

I logged on to the Teamspeak server dedicated to the battle and double checked the forum thread to make sure I had an appropriate tank for the battle. I didn’t sign up ahead of time so I didn’t know if I was going to be able to play, but all the guys were nice and there were a few extra spots open.

I joined my fellow comrades in a SU-85 (with 122m HE cannon) to fight for the motherland and push back the fascist hordes. Tanks allowed in the battle were: Russian T-34, SU-85 (122mm) and SU-76. The Germans had Tigers, Panzer IIIs, and StuG IIIs.  There was a certain ratio of tanks that each side had to try to keep a historical balance.

The field of battle for the day was Komarin, and the match was set best three out of five. The historical battles are interesting as they use the Training Battle option in the game and the first five minutes are used to talk tactics. There is also no base capture.

Each game had the Germans starting in the north and the Russians in the south.

Are you ready for the next World of Tanks art contest? For this art contest, we would like to see some Holiday Tank Comics. These comics would ideally be comical, and include some sort of holiday theme.

Here are the rules:

• The comic should only cover one page in a pdf or image document.
• There will be two categories:
  • Hand-drawn/Painted (Example)
  • In-game screenshots (additions are allowed, such as chat bubbles, extra drawings etc. as long as the background is an in-game World of Tanks screenshot). A good example of these can be found here.
  • You may only participate in one category.
  • The comics must include at least one of the vehicles found in game.

The contest starts now and ends on January 4th, at 11:59 PM PST.

Please be sure to send in only one submission. Also please indicate which category you are participating in, and be sure to include your game name in the email (these are required, if not included, your entry will be disqualified).

My husband and I were preparing for my imminent demise and showed me some stunning information regarding how much money I'd spent playing World of Tanks....

I am battling a terminal disease and since last fall things got worse leaving me bed-ridden for the most part. I'd already lost vision in one eye and the other was beginning to go so flying online was out.
Hubby suggested I try something else to pass the time and I chose to design virtual clothing in Second Life as well as take a friend up on his suggestion I try WoT.
It turned out that I really enjoyed pretending to be a tanker and soon I was addicted.
I never wanted to die with any money left over so spending it on a game was fine with me.
Regardless, I almost choked when I saw the numbers.

Total amount of gold purchased: 3,85515.75
Clan Gold received: 28,800
US Dollars spent 1,655.75

WOW WOW WOW!!!!

I bought gold to convert XP, buy gold crews, equipment, ammo, consumables and such to grind my tanks up so I would have a decent stable for clan wars.
My goal was to live long enough to have every tank in WoT, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.

At this moment, I am only missing the TigerP, AusA, Ferdie and JTiger from the German line.
IS7, top end TDs and arty from the Russian.
T30, T95, Top mediums and arty from the US line.
It was alot of fun and quite aggravating getting there and the Clan Wars schedule was debilitating.

Now I can see the landing lights of the Freedom Bird coming to take me on my last flight out and I wanted to thank ALL of you for being my virtual playmates. Yes, even those of you who I consider complete A-HOLES I say Thanks for keeping me angry enough to log in and get better so I could destroy your tanks. *Grin*

To my former MLP friends and team mates; Thank you so much for giving a silly old lady the chance to walk with the giants. We did some incredible things together and running with the big dogs sure took my game to a whole new level.

Q: The HE nerf hit the VK2801 really hard. At the moment it is almost useless compared to Chaffee and T50-2. Are there any plans to change the guns on this tanks or buff it in any way, or making the HE work like it did in previos patches with this tank?
A: Yes, there was certain performance drop. However, according to the 7.0 stat data received from RU server T-50-2 and VK are on a par at the moment, while Chaffee is in the lead.

Q: Will you post the other release plane tech trees (WoWP, for USSR and Germany)?
A: I suppose certain gap would be kept so as not to announce a lot at once. By the way, WoWP forums are up and running. You can ask questions there.

Q: Smart matchmaking system related question - is this system still in place and working?
A: As far as I know it has been disabled, due to some issues with waiting queues and server load.

Q: Are you planning reward for getting all tanks from 1 nation or all tanks of certain type (SPG, TD, HT, etc.) from all trees?
A: There will be faction-based achievements as well (for researching all tanks of a particular nation).

Q: Overlord, has anybody researched all possible vehicles on the tech trees? Is there reward for accomplishing this, like in game medal or that sort?
A: I think there are such players. You know, RU has been live for .. how many .. more than 16 months. Currently there is no reward for that at all. But we are planning to introduce one.

Q: Is there any chance to release patch 7.1 this year?
A: Skipping the questions on dates. Sorry.

Q: Since the new top turret for IS3 is 2 tons heavier than the previous one, was the passability/acceleration buffed to maintain same movement performance, or was the tank equalized in some other way, or not at all?
A: We do think that no other adjustment is really required.

Q: Are these replay files safe to share? Can the user's mail address and/or password be extracted somehow or it is completely safe?
A: Not totally. Replays do contain your contacts list. That will be fixed in 7.1.

This week, we get to hear from SG clan. I was able to sit down and talk to Jern, Draacco, Gavin, and Xander which they gave us the opportunity to hear about their insights and philosophy into what keeps their clan going. I had a great time sitting down and talking to these guys. They were a great bunch that liked to talk, and express them selves in a very professional manor. I had a fun time hanging out with them and they seemed like a group that I would like to hang out with and maybe platoon or company with. I hope you guys enjoy the read as much as I did conducting the interview.

Q: Please tell us about your Clan. What brought your group together?

A: Well, our clan originally formed about eleven years ago on a game, WWII online. We got our name when we played on the axis side of WWII online. We ended picking a name that was sonaminus with german unit. That's what brought us together and we played that game for  a number years and grew a good reputation in that game. We ended up getting into many others games and moved us into the multi gaming orginization. Our focus has been PVP war games, especially ones that involve with moving maps like Clan Wars and we have been very happy with World of tanks because of that.



Q: What insight or philosophy is the driving force behind your union? In other words, what motivates your members, what instills that esprit de’ corps so many clans seek?

A: We are a adult only orginization. We want mature players that can play at high level's. We don't like to use the term elite, but we believe in preperation, training, and orginization. So we use allot of military rank structure and military like disiplin when it comes to the competive side of games.  We pride our selves that we don't need to be here 16 hours a day playing a game to still be successful at it or to still be good at it. We just really feel strong in believeing in the orginization and the sacrafice that is sometimes needed to stay successful.

There are various statesments through the years the years of gaming that became famous with in our ranks, such as in Planet Side, "Holding Jin Tower", which was a very un-popular thing to do but was a very neccessary thing to do be able to advance the map and to do things. SG would always take that un-popular job and do it, and do it so well that it would allow the rest of our team and allies to be successful.  So when we really see that map moving, that's what inspires us.



Q: What leadership/management style can you share that has helped [SG] stay together as a vibrant and active Clan?

A: Well we have a administration structure called syndicant members because we branched out to multipul portals and so we just came up with the name game syndicant. The syndicant members give direction to the different portals going and then we have portal, then we have portal leaders.  The portal leaders primarily focuse whats going on now where the syndicant leaders can focus on whats coming down the road and see if it would be worth wild for us to move into that new portal.



Q: Many Clans play other games together as well, all for a variety of reasons. What brought your Clan specifically into WoT? What, if anything, would encourage [SG]'s continued gaming and expansion within WoT?

A: WoT at its heart is a FPS game with tanks, and we play alot of FPS games and we have alot of fun with them. We don't stay real active with them for long periods of time though just because they get repetitive. What makes WoT different is Clan Wars. Clan Wars element is what appeals to SG and as long as they make rules that make sense to CW and don't cripple it then you will continue to see SG's growth.



Q: What can we expect to see from [SG] in the future?

A: Well, we have helped form a group of alliances on the map and we are moving forward with that. In the future, we have guy's dedicated to watching for that so seeing SG move to other games and continue its growth is what is to come in the future.




Q: What are your basic requirements for application and membership in [SG]? Is there anything specific you look for in an applicant?

A: We are adult only community, we dont want the drama in dealing with the younger crowed. We have a membership fee that is used to support our essitual needs of our clan, such as website, TS, and our FPS server for the other portals we are involved with. That fee is not for profit, it's there in place of what others do with a donation system. We want people to fill out applications on the webpage rather then through the clan page on the WoT site. Then we will contact people then conduct a TS interview with any potentual applicant.

The applications have to be written in a "pro" format basically meaning it will be something that we want to read. Show us that you taken your time to show that you want to be in, then we will pull you to the next step which is the TS application. Durring the TS interview we will see if you fit with us and if we feel tha tyour not a good fit we will turn you down. Not everyone is a fit to what we are about.



Q: What council or advice would you offer those new to WoT? And the more experienced?

A: To the new tankers, maintain a premium account so you don't burn your self out trying to level up. Premium is very important to help you get up to the higher leveles. The game does not have much of a varity in random battles so find a group of guy's you work well with and platoon up with them. Being in a clan with the ability to shoot the bull is important to help ease the pain of the grind.

To those that are more experinced, get in with a group that knows how to stay on the map and get with a team that has a good leadership that can keep you guy's orginized and active. Getting with a group that takes land the looses it can get fustrating when you start doing a yo-yo effect.



Q: Since the release of Clan Warfare, how has it impacted/affected your Clan?

A: Clan Wars is huge, we wouldn't have a portal thats dedicated to WoT along with having hundred's members stay with it for 6+ months. Clan Wars is our main focus in playing World of Tanks.



Q: How has the most recent clan wars update affected your clan?

A: The latest patch of CW has had a negitve impact. The inability to control how many battles we can put our players into a given night, putting our stack into a landding zone and letting them go into a tournament, and play 3 or 4 battles. We were averging 3 - 5 battles per night before the patch, and now we droped down to 1 - 2 and maybe 3 battles a night and it makes it so we can't get all our members into battles and has caused some of them to drift into other games.



Q: (For [SG] members) How has the release of CW Beta impacted you and your game play and/or style, ie; time, focus, team-play, etc?

A: Dracco: Well, clan wars is it. Clan wars is that meta game thing that I really enjoy doing, like the stradigy, moving of the map. There are set goals you have have for your self and your clan and there is allot of the stradigy and with the release of CW, its the reason why I keep playing this game.

Gavin: The main thing about it, is that it is very unique in that there is nothing like the experince of clan wars match that is offered in any other part of the game. The ability to knwo what map your going to be on vs something like company battles where its still random matches allows us to work together and come up with a good stradigy.

xander: It's increased my game play just trying to level up. When it first came out, I had a tier 8 tank and it gave me the drive to get to a tier 10 tank. Now with the lockouts, its a grind to get multipul tier 10 tanks.



Q: (For [SG] members) What suggestions would you offer to other tankers and Clans in the Beta?

A: Gavin: Be on a team you can work well together. Win or loose, you need to be able to enjoy the experince. If you loose, be open to work with each other to work on your team disoplin, refine your stradigies and enjoy it as much as you can. Thats one thing that is common with newer clans will eb the lack of experince of clanwars compaired to some of the more experince clans. Don't get fustrated if you loose 15 - 0 and be open to learn from your mistakes and go from there.

Xander: Well if I was going to make any recomendation to any other clan, I would tell them that gold rounds are over rated, especially going agienst us. I'm joking on this,

Draacco: I would have to go with what Gavin has said. You play the game to have fun, but there is that point where you may want to be very competive, but you can't let it consume you. There are alot of guys out there that have a little to much ego, especially with some of the leaders.

Group: Some people just don't grasp that playing in CW takes time to get the experice that is need to be a top competitor. It takes time to learn the maps and come up with good stradigies. There are also players out there that will take the blame for the loss and there are leaders that will post the blame on others but it comes down to was a group loss and you need to learn from it and move on. There are days where you will have your best players have a off day and day's that the stradigies just wont work. Some times you have to try the stradigies again, sometimes they wont work and other times the will work.
