2011 has been an incredible year for Wargaming,net, and, we hope, for you as well.

Wargaming.net’s premier project, World of Tanks, set the Guinness World Record for the largest peak concurrent users on a single cluster with more than 90,000 players in February, and has been beating its own record ever since - eventually topping its own impressive number of 250,000 people playing concurrently, with an overall audience exceeding a whopping 18,000,000 registered users.

The game has earned multiple awards and worldwide recognition at the biggest gaming shows, including E3, Gamescom, and G-Star.

We would like to commemorate this year and our achievements together as a community with milestone videos of our progress.

UPD. The test server of 7.1 update will be restarted at 12:00 UTC, December 26th. The downtime will last for 30 minutes.

The public test of version 7.1 has reached its second stage, with 7.1.2 becoming available today for testing. We've also moved the public test server to North America based on your feedback. This should hopefully provide a smoother gameplay experience for you when helping to test out all of the new content and balance changes.

Please remember that the public test server is subject to the EULA and general rules of World of Tanks. The restrictions and punishments are the same as on the official game servers of World of Tanks. Please post all 7.1 related feedback here and bugs here.

Public Test Participation

To participate in the 7.1 public test, you must download the 7.1 public test patch. It is recommended you create a new World of Tanks installation for the public test. For help with your installation, visit this thread.

1. Copy the current World of Tanks folder (must be updated with 7.0) to another place for running the test OR create a new World of Tanks installation for the public test.

2. Download the test #1 update of 7.1 here (209 Mb) and install it over the copied/new installation.

3. Download the test #2 update 7.1 (239 Mb) from here and install it over test #1 of update.

Your World of Tanks account must have been created on or before November 15, 2011 to be eligible for participation in this version of the public test.

Note: The English language localization is currently being tested and will be made available at a later time. For a temporary solution, please visit this thread.

While playing, please also keep in mind that:

• Payments are not accepted on the public test server.
• Credit and experience rates for public test server are multiplied 10 times. All players are given 15k gold for testing purposes.
• Progress won't be transferred to the main NA server.

UPD. The Clan Wars and Global Map maintenance works have been prolonged. Their return time will be announced later.

Maintenance will be performed on the Clan Wars server and Global Map between December 14 and December 26, 2011. We have extended the downtime to provide a break from Clan Wars during the holiday season.

Based on feedback, we have also decided that the previously announced “tank locking” feature will not be introduced on the North American World of Tanks server. We are not comfortable with the impact such a feature will have on the competitive nature of Clan Wars on the North American server and will continue monitoring the state of the Global Map.

In addition, the start of battles on the Global Map will be modified. Battles will now start for the day one hour earlier than previously. For example, if “Prime Time” was 6:00PM prior to this change, the new “Prime Time” for the province will be 5:00PM.

Christmas. The time of good cheer and giving. Peace on Earth, Goodwill to All Men. Or something like that.

Of course, when you’re off in a war, it’s probably a little hard to entirely go with the goodwill part of things. It has been many years since anyone has ever thought of having a Christmas truce, wandering over to the other side, and having a football game with them. Nearly a hundred, actually. (How many of you remember the video to Paul McCartney’s “Pipes of Peace, out of interest?)



However, it seems that there is still always some Christmas Spirit which manages to break in. Assuming that both sides celebrate the holiday, they’ll make the most of whatever they have, either to the full extent if they’re in a rear area…



...or just with whatever they can find to hand if they’re closer to the front line.



I’ve been relatively fortunate. I’ve only been away for two Christmases. Unfortunately, with the advent of online ordering, even deployment did not relieve me from the task of having to think of Christmas presents to buy for people back home. Worse, the US Army’s policies on such matters prohibit such traditional items as mulled wine being allowed for one to be properly festive.

My first Christmas away was in Iraq. At the time, I was but a simple platoon leader, in order to celebrate the season, we all played ‘Secret Santa.’  Using, of course, the Internet down MWR (order ages in advance for delivery times!), or whatever we could scrounge from the locals. Someone, from somewhere, obtained a santa hat, so the ceremonies basically consisted of a sequential gift-giving, the person opening the gift at the time had to wear the hat.



For some reason, I got a bullwhip, which I took to wearing on patrol on my belt Indiana Jones style. Never did find an excuse to use it.

Fast forward several years, and I’m in Afghanistan. Being now a Troop Commander, I decide I’m going to abuse my rank and go travelling on my Christmas Vacation. Well, in reality, I had a platoon detached waaaay the heck at the other end of the country and I hadn’t seen them in the six months we had been deployed. I took the First Sergeant as my travelling companion, and off we went on our grand adventure. Some of you may recall a film by the name of Trains, Planes and Automobiles. It almost got to that level.

Of course, the intent was to arrive in time for the Christmas meal.  From where we started in vicinity of Jalalabad to Qalat was only a couple hundred miles. Google Maps, perhaps optimistically, rates it as an 8 hour drive. Well, let’s give it a buffer. We left on the 21st, hopping a helo which is probably older than I am. The odd thing was that they came with an in-flight safety card.



Now, maybe I’m just smarter than the average trooper, but if I’m sitting in a helicopter of that sort, I don’t need nice diagrams showing me where the exits are. I’m pretty sure I can figure it out on my own. In any event, the crash landing never occurred, much though I distrust helos, and we landed in the paradise that is Bagram. Well, it had a Burger King, close enough.

It took until the following afternoon, late, before we could catch a flight onwards to Kandahar. When we got there, we find ourselves basically turfed out by the sidewalk on an unfamiliar base with no contacts and no idea where we were or where we were going. Oh, and it was cold. Heaven forbid people might think there might be people arriving by military transport after business hours.

Eventually we found some transient lodging, and set up for the night. The following morning, we tracked down our contact and set about the next stage of our journey, another helo. It is now the 23rd. We are informed that there are no flights that day, try again tomorrow.

Well, what to do? Obviously go shopping. Kandahar airfield, it has much to commend it, mainly because it’s so heavily populated by multiple nationalities. People who know how to cook bacon without it becoming so tough it shatters when you stick a fork in it! Best breakfast I had in months. Then I found the NAAFI! The Garden of Eden indeed!

Of course, one must remember that it was Christmas, with the associated sights. It must be said, I don’t ever recall reading anything which specifically said that Santa may not be armed. After all, how else would he protect his toys from the naughty men who might decide to steal them? Or maybe G-2 reported the Grinch in Afghanistan?



The following day, not being any better for flights and still stuck in limbo in Kandahar, we decided to go shopping again. For those who have not been to Kandahar, it is heavily infested by Canadians, so much so that the main shopping square (“the Boardwalk”) has a hockey rink in the middle. To spread Christmas Cheer from Ottawa, the Chief of Staff showed up, and he brought some entertainment with him. No idea who, but hey, we weren’t that picky.



Eventually, on Christmas Morning, we caught an AW.139 to Qalat. In Zabul province, there really does seem to be nothing there. Upon arrival, I find that my lieutenant and a detachment of his are another helicopter ride away, into very much the middle of nowhere, to attend a bridge opening. The bridge opening could be the subject of a different article, suffice to say, from the look of it I just hope the bridge is still up. Fortunately, we were able to find a CH-47 going the same way.



After the ribbon cutting and sheep slaughtering, we could take stock. This was Christmas at the other extreme, a dozen guys out about as far from anything resembling the comforts of home as it was possible to be. But Christmas it still was.

There is a footnote.

We still had, of course, to return home. After the trip over, we were set to return on the 27th, after all, we still had our jobs at the other end of the country and the war would undoubtedly fall apart without us. Getting to Kandahar was simple enough, but there was an interesting barrier en route to Bagram, or more accurately, a barrier to getting onto the C-130 to Bagram. Yes, it’s airport security.



Now, please remember, this is a war zone, and I’m taking a military flight. The security checkpoint is manned by RAF MPs. Once the shock of seeing airport security had diluted, I beckon one of the lads over.

“If I might ask, are you expecting us to go –through- the checkpoint”?

“Yes, Sir” replies the airman.

“Is this…” (as I gesture towards all the gear I’m festooned with, to include two firearms) “… going to be an issue?”

“Well, Sir,” he replies… “how much ammunition are you carrying?”

I’m thinking to myself “why the heck does it ma…. no. never mind. I’m sure there’s a reason he wants to know.” Now, I subscribe to the philosophy that you can never have too much ammo, unless you’re walking a long distance. That said, I’m travelling light for this trip, but I have to do a mental count of magazines.

“Two hundred ninety of 5.56mm”

“Oh, that’s fine, Sir. You can have up to 500.”

“!?”

“If you were carrying a belt-fed, 2,000”

“I see,” says I, somewhat bemused. “OK, well, for full disclosure, I also have 60 rounds of 9mm”

“Too much, Sir,”, he says, You’re only authorized to bring 45 rounds on with you for a sidearm”

“And what do you suggest I do with the extra magazine?”

“It goes in checked baggage, Sir.” (Basically, it gets put into my rucksack which gets put on a pallet). “And that knife you’re wearing,” as he points to one I have on my web gear, “That has to go in checked baggage also.”

At this point, nothing is going to shock me. If you look in the picture, you’ll see all sorts of knives on display as ‘prohibited items’ on the wall behind the checkpoint.

“But the rifle, sidearm, 290 rounds of 5.56mm and 45 rounds of 9mm are all fine”

“Yes, Sir”

Knowing better than to try to fight the bureaucracy, I dutifully put one 9mm magazine and my knife into my rucksack. I then pull my rifle sling over my head, place the rifle on the conveyor. It is subsequently joined by my sidearm belt, web gear, body armour, and jacket. It all goes through the X-ray machine. I go through the metal detector. Of course, I beep. The culprit, the buckles on my boots. Once having concluded that, indeed, I had no weapons secreted on my person, I then retrieved and re-donned  my jacket, armour, web gear, rifle and sidearm, and was cleared to proceed to the aircraft.

I ended up back ‘home’ the evening of the 28th.

I will say this for the Army, they do tend to provide me with memorable experiences.

It is unlikely that too many of you are reading this from far from friends and families. Those of you who are, I send a special acknowledgement, I know where you’re coming from. However, the good news is that if you’re on a deployment, if you can’t be with family, chances are you’ll never find a better group of people to spend Christmas with than the comrades in arms that you’re in the company of right now.

So to one and all, happy holidays. Now, I’m off to earn my x5 XPs….

While 7.0 update is being released for US (at the moment) and EU (later this week) servers, we are launching public test of 7.1 update.

Due to technical reasons and the desire to speed up the release of this update, the public test will be available only for RU server this time (public test of 7.1 requires the support of 7.0 functionality which is not ready for EU and US yet).

World of Tanks v.7.0 - 7.1 test1 patch notes:

- Added basic French Tank Tree;
Introducing lights, mediums, and heavies, all in all 18 vehicles. No premiums for now.
Mind the following changes in comparison with French alpha tree:
Lorraine 40t moved to tier 8 medium, while Bat Chatillon 25 t - to tier 9 medium.
Amx-50 120mm was downshifted from tier 10 to tier 9 heavy, and AMX 50B (former AMX 65t) became the new French top heavy.
- Fixed bug with default ammunition resupply after the battle;
It's a v.7.0 bug, when system doesn't save your ammo choice and sometimes restores basic ammo selection.
- Fixed bug when it's impossible to close private channels;
Again v.7.0 bug.
- Fixed client-to-server asynchronization upon the vehicle's destruction by ramming;
Again v.7.0 bug.
- Added tank model (short) after the player's name in brackets for battle interface.
For all messages and notifications, eg chat messages, X destroyed by Y messages et. Eg chat message - Overlord (M46): Hello!
- Changed specifications for all automatic guns and vehicles using them.
Automatic and semiautomatic guns have been reworked into a new system with auto-loading (cartridge reloading) that is being introduced along with French tanks.
Some vehicle specs have also been changed. Detailed patch notes will be available upon the release to the main server.
- Fixed bugs with vehicle armouring: IS-3 (top front turret), IS-4 (side hull and 122mm BL-9 gun mantlet), T95 (side hull);
IS-3 and IS-4 are getting their 7.0 bugs fixed, eg the latter had his side armour decreased by 20mm. Restoring the correct values.

- Fixed bugs in vehicle models: Object 212, Pz VI Tiger, T32, Grille, Pz II Luchs, VK3001P, Löwe;
Just visual stuff.
- ISU-152: 16 armour groups + spaced armor;
ISU is getting its new hitbox. Just as many vehicles in 7.0.
- Fixed the same gun models 7.5cm L/70 and 8.8cm L/56 for JagdPanther;
Visually the guns were the same. Now they are using 2 different models.
- Fixed camo bugs for VK4502A, Pz II.
- Reduced RoF for 8.8cm L/71 guns on JagdPanther and Ferdinand;
These changes were misssing in 7.0, where the long 88 got 220->240 damage adjustment.
- Fixed bugs on maps: Fjords, Marsh, Steppes, Malinovka;
A couple of map bugs got fixed.
- Fixed the red "Texture not found" square replacing clan logo when changing settings;
Introducing the display of clan logos. It hasn't been added in 7.0, since some rework was required.
- Added new options for colour-blind scheme;
Now it's possible to adjust the colour of reload progress-bar and a gun marker.
- Fixed bug with not displayed new invites when invite channel is open;
- Fixed invite channel blinking when there are no active invites;
- Fixed the absence of Commander's modifier in tooltip over a crew member;
- Fixed bugs in fire effects for destroyed tanks;
- Added the option to hide interface when playing the recorded battle ("V" key);
- Fixed bug when getting to pre-battle room for ready but un-distributed tank company players;
- Fixed a system message while receiving/redeeming vehicle that is already in garage;
- Fixed garage freezing when entering the game with "Enter" button pressed.

Q: Will there be a New Year special around 31.12. / 1.1.?
A: Wait for the news on the portal. I'm not announcing specials.

Q: Overlord, how does the Tiger P compare in performance to the other T7 heavies, especially to the Tiger H?
A: Tiger P looks a bit better than Tiger H. Currently T29 and Tiger P are in the lead, Tiger H and IS are somewhat behind.

Q: When are you going to create tools for support that can help players with some mistakes which happens from time to time, like accidentally deleted tank, crew members, wrong type of ammunition bought, deleted module instead demounted etc.?
A: Not planning to introduce that kind of functionality.

Q: Any information on gold transfer between players - is it scrapped completely?
A: No info.

Q: Why you are not allowing more than 100 members in a single clan?
A: It's an artificial limitation.

Q: How is progress on destructable world or were those plans abandoned?
A: We are considering various options, including third-party physics solutions, to provide extra destructibility.

Q: Overlord, how much has the Tiger's performance increased compared to 7.0 and 6.7 with the changes it got?
A: +3.7% exp and +0.5% win ratio. Not a big deal, however it allowed Tiger to get ahead of IS.

Q: Overlord, any chances for a full gold refund for Type-59 due to extreme nerf it will receive (one tier higher MM spread is an extreme nerf)?
A: No, since we are not touching the tank itself. 5% profitability buff should help maintain the same income.

Q: And how come balancing solution to Lowe issues was to raise its price, without touching its stats or MM spread?
A: Lowe already had +1 to MM spread of its counterpart KV-5, so it was really a good decision to adjust its MM spread. Plus T59 now has even more narrow spread and the number of T59 units purchased is higher.

Q: I've got a question about M18 Hellcat. In reality it had top speed of 60mph (100km/h). Is there any chance it will have it in game?
A: Player - Game engine can only do 72 km/h, it's a limitation that can't be gone over. So it will most likely be around 72
Overlord [in response to player's answer] - Yes, true.

This week, we get to hear from NNG clan. I was able to sit down and talk to Rippie, PEAKABOOM, Broklyn_DaTroll, crazywacko, crimsonwolf, junglescope, Saberr,  and shettaal which they gave us the opportunity to hear about their insights and philosophy into what keeps their clan going. I had a great time sitting down and talking to these guys. They were a great bunch that liked to talk, and express them selves in a very professional manor. When talking to them I found out that our clan and there clan may have in the past, crossed paths in various games. This interview was one of my favorite to date and just talking and hanging out with these guys will always be a good time.

Q: Please tell us about your Clan. What brought your group together?

A: Well, our clan originally formed eight years ago when a clan Rippie was in kicked him out for hanging out on a friends teamspeak server. They booted him so he decided that it was not going to happen again so this clan was formed. Since then, we have grown with friends from the other clan and have been involved with many other game since then.




Q: Is there a particular history or story behind your Clan name?

A: When we first left our old clan, we were really into the zombie mods of the Call of Duty series, so we originally named our clan Team Zombie Slayer. We did that for about the first year and a half and that did not take off with that name, then one day, Rippie and BruceBigalow decided to change the name, and they talked for a bit and Rippie mentioned the name "Napalm", then they talked more and was like, "Napalm What?", and the name  "Nightz" was suggested which represented napalm fire seen at night. Gaming was added after that was all said and done.




Q: What insight or philosophy is the driving force behind your union? In other words, what motivates your members, what instills that esprit de’ corps so many clans seek?

A: To sum up everything, we all hate hackers. It's one of our core teniants of our clan. No matter what games we play, we all agree that hackers detract from the game and thats the one thing we all have in common, even if we play different games.  We do not tolerate any of that behaviour here. We also work well together on everything and we always see eye to eye on different matters and we always work out any problems we may have as a team.

Another thing is and this is a big one is that we feel strongly about, is that its only a game. If you not having fun, then please go find your fun somewhere else. We rather you have fun some where else where you can have fun then here not having fun.




Q: Many Clans play other games together as well, all for a variety of reasons. What brought your Clan specifically into WoT? What, if anything, would encourage [NNG]'s continued gaming and expansion within WoT?

A: First, there was a  bunch of us playing Call of Duty and one of our members said, "hey man, come check out this new game I have been playing.", and that happen to be World of Tanks. We have been playing it pretty much since then. Some of use have moved on,  but a majority of us have stayed and we have also gained members. Another reason many of us came and love playing this game is the fact that we love blowing stuff up. We also run with more like a military structure where it helps keep everything orginized. Structure is everything.

As for anything that would encourage us to continue in the game is really nothing. The game is great and we just continue playing and haveing fun. Yes, there are a few issues that needs to be re-addressed within the game and a few tweaks that need to be done with the game, but its great and we will continue having fun with the game. The thrill of the game especially with the company battles with the smaller tier matches will go and people will work there way back to the matches we once had.




Q: What leadership/management style can you share that has helped [NNG] stay together as a vibrant and active Clan?

A: Well we have a administration structure called syndicant members because we branched out to multipul portals and so we just came up with the name game syndicant. The syndicant members give direction to the different portals going and then we have portal, then we have portal leaders.  The portal leaders primarily focuse whats going on now where the syndicant leaders can focus on whats coming down the road and see if it would be worth wild for us to move into that new portal.




Q: What can we expect to see from [NNG] in the future?

A: Well,  we have a bunch of people branching out to different games where we are trying to bring in more members and get them to join us in WoT. In the future, I believe you will see us taking over some territory on the map. I think we got a good basic team with some really good leaders.




Q: What are your basic requirements for application and membership in [NNG]? Is there anything specific you look for in an applicant?

A: We are adult only community, we do want you to be 18+, we do request you to have TeamSpeak and use it. If your in our clan and if your in the game, then you should be on teamSpeak and learn to socialize with your clan mates.  We are a social community so we like to get to know you and being on teamspeak helps with that. We don't neccessarily have a tier limit to our clan but we do like you to have clan wars ready tanks. But if we find someone that does not have the high tier tanks but is active and looking to have fun playing, then they are more then welcomed to some here, just again ask to have you 18+. We do not discriminate agienst from where your from, just ask you to be able to speak english so we can understand you. We have many members from all over the world so location is not a problem.




Q: What council or advice would you offer those new to WoT? And the more experienced?

A: To the new tankers, keep true to who you are. Play the game to have fun. That's what games are for, getting with your buddies and slaughtering the opposing team together while having fun.

To those that are more experinced, again, keep true to who you are and who you were when you started this game with those tier one's and two's. Just cause you may have a tier 10 tank, does not mean your all that. The day you start thinking your all that is the day the game is no longer fun because all the sudden you have a tier 10 and you know all that, unlike when you were a lower tier and your learning how to play and learning all the tricks.

Another thing you need to know is there are alot of noobs out there, and the only way they are going to get better is by experince. You can't just shun them off because they are a noob, help them learn how to do play there tanks and help them learn the tricks to make them better players.



Q: Since the release of Clan Warfare, how has it impacted/affected your Clan?

A: For better or worse, I think it has hurt our clan. People wanted to get the gold so we have lost members that decided to go after the gold. We have lost some good people due to the gold and the clans that hold the land and are offering to pay in gold the people to join there clan. But on the poitive not it has help a bit getting more players that are up-coming and joined our clan on the permis that in the future we will be getting involved with ClanWars and holding land.




Q: How has the most recent clan wars update affected your clan?

A: It didn't affect us in any way, we were still were able to put our 15 chips on a landing and go at it.




Q: (For [NNG] members) Since the release of Clan Wars Beta, what can you say is the important aspects that is needed for a successful team?

A: Rippie: Since Clan Wars, it showed that working as a team was vital, it showed that you need to be able to communicate with your team to be successful. Using a program like Advanced Tactical Center also is great for preperation into battles for Clan Wars.

PEAKABOOM: Basically the same as Rippie said.

Crazywacko: Same as Rippie, but,  I personally hate that program. Mostley going with tatics to me is almost worthless, for tatics will be change as soon as you get in. It all depends on the team your going agienst and what they bring in that will ditictate what your tatics are going to be. Mind you not having any tatics is not good, but going in with a good group of people and having a strong leader to come up with that tactic's on the  spot is what you need more then a program.

shettaal: I have to agree with all of them, you need to have a good leader with tactical skills. But needing a stradigy is good to have before the battle but how ever, changing the tactics in the battle will always happen.

junglescope: I have to agree with all of them, not much more I can add to what they said. But the main thing I have notticed about clan wars is that it doesn't really matter on the tanks you have, but it's more on if you know how to use what you got to your advantage and knowing how to use your tanks.




Q: (For [NNG] members) What suggestions would you offer to other tankers and Clans in the Beta?

A: Rippie: Be respectful. There is no need to be rude or put down other clans or smaller clans that are just trying to have fun and have some good matches. Showing the respect people is showing what type of clan you are.

crazywacko: If your in a clan war, and you win, the best thing you can do is be respectful and say "Good Game".

PEAKABOOM: Give incouragement to people, even if you loose or they loose, just say good game. You get the up most respect if you show the gracefulness of the encouragement, as said before, this game is like a game of chess, and you always want to end on a good note.

Maybe after version 7.1 is available, because the text files are almost always updated with new ones after each content patch so there's no point releasing it now when it will just get overwritten with a new one soon.
