So finally unlocked my S-70, but already had a battle where I ran out of AP shells. Went back and changed my resupply options so that now I am running with 18xAP and 6xHE shells. Was just wondering what other people are running with. Is it even worth it to have any HE shells with this gun?

You should always carry some HE to reset a cap where you can't risk a bounce.

The cap reset is still determined bye damage done, as well as penetration.

Cap resets as long as a shell doesn't bounce. All the points that the tank hit has capped goes away, but the other tanks' points stay.

Even a 0 damage crit to the tracks will reset it. :Smile_great:

I have 3 HE. used to carry 5, but had one game where I could have really used 2 extra AP rounds. 3 HE is plenty to reset a cap.

4 HE now, used to have 6. After the HE mechanical changes in 7.0 patch, i'm out of AP ammo more often since HE rounds are quite obsolette now.

i carry 4 like the guy above for similar tactical reasons, but i did it mainly because it's 24 shells, so i just put 20 for AP and 4 for HE simply to keep the order equal, if you get what i mean. but yeah tactically, 4 - 5 HE is enough.

I only carry AP cuz the chance that I need 2 reset a cap is small and u only need to penetrate what isn't a really big problem for the S-70
And I'm happy to do that cuz in one battle I only had 2 shells left

I carry 2 HE only, for when I see a 1% tank behind cover with his tracks sticking out. Otherwise, there is no reason to use HE, as you can pen every single tank there is. I've used up all 24 ammo on the is4 many times (and had direct losses due to running out of ammo as the last one standing).

2 HE shells max.

I mean,

The only  scenario I can think of is an emergency stop the cap situation with a Maus or something, and how often does that really happen?
You could probably use 0 and never notice any difference.

What can the S-70 not penetrate? Why bother with HE at all?

I carry 0 HE in my IS-3's BL-9 and do just fine.

Yep, I run a full 24 AP shells. You'll pen everything if you know what you're doing.

Maus at long distance sitting at the cap?

I carry only 2 HE, because I run low on AP all the time.

2 HE here. I'm considering not bringing any HE at all.

based on how much i suck at aiming with my 8 - 10 fps average lagtastic computer, 4 HE is enough to keep my luck at splashing someone.

i remember the time i was playing and my computer screen turned into black shards of static, yet i could still fight using my AMX heh

besides, what fun it is to penetrate a thin frenchie with HE that blows a hole right through it for less cost then the AP..though not difference but oh well. but I'll try the 2 HE when i get my computer to be friendly again :l

Yeah but sometimes HE knows to screw with me
I once fired with my T95 HE (155 mm) at a lorraine and did less damage then the AP shell, it even misses more then an AP shell  http://forum.worldoftanks.com/public/style_emoticons/default/Smile_sceptic.gif

3 HE.

I used to have 5 until I ran out of AP on base defense.
My last AP round reset the cap through the scaffold causing much protest from the Type 59 victim who seemed to think he was invisible & invulnerable behind that.
But there was also a T-34 there & my HE failed miserably to hurt him significantly from the front.
Killed an artie who tried to sneak up on me though.
Wound up having to just hide behind a rock & wait out the cap.

After that I was tempted to dump HE outright but I need it for targeting guns on hull down E75 etc who can't be penetrated.
