actually the T5E1M2 stems from the T5E1 which was just the main gun used on the original T28 in real life...not too sure if there was ever any REAL T5E1M2. The L7 main gun carried the US designation M68. The L7 was the progeny of the QF 20 Pounder (84mm) from Royal Ordnance.

And you guys were right...seems that it too is 52 calibers long. :)

Well, to be fair, the 105mm carried in real life by late M48 Patton vriants and the M60 was the L7  :Smile-hiding:

Sadly they are using the Mark III which really wasn't the best of the litter.

The centuarions they purchased were Mk 5's armed with the 20lber gun. After recieving them however, they were upgraded with a 105mm gun, and other features that probably made them roughly equal to the mark 5/2. I do not know if there were any further upgrades before the Arab Israeli conflict

The first Israeli purchase of Cents in '58 included 16 Mark 5s and 14 Mark 8s. As far as I have understood, Israelis made quite a bit of modifications throughout the careers of their Cents, but even the pre '67 mods are still a state secret.

as long as it stays tier9 it's still useless in TC and Clan war

Just because it won't be used in CW doesn't mean it will be a bad tank though. Look at the E-50, which the Centurion will probably be similar to.

I am in agreement. The Centurion is the one tank I am really looking forward to.

Useless in clan wars, maybe - but who cares, any serious CW player is going to have multiple tier 10s for CWs , since most teams on most maps field limited amounts of mediums and are tier 10 heavy anyway.

Tier 9/10 Absolute tank companies have been flooded out by medium/champion companies - but even if they hadn't been, TCs are usually more varied than CWs.

Absolutely must have this tank. Better have CO2 module for your fuel tanks though. Known IRL to go up in flames pretty easily, at least thats what Vietnam vets who operated it told me.

that was just the external tank... we buggered that thing of quick..the internal tank was self sealing and in a separate compartment with a built in blow out panel so if it goes up it blows out not in..not fool proof but it was better than not having it, unfortunately like any petrol engine if that was hit it would still brew up, but if they smash your engine your days pretty much up the creek anyway...the only losses in Phuoc tuy we suffered came from double stacked soviet antitank mines as far as i know..

Anglomanii, your insight on centurion is greatly appreciated here. Could you explain the crash-gearbox process of the centurion for people too young to know what it is or the problems it caused? Thanks for your service in Nam'. My father was there in 67-68' flying UH-1 Huey "Slicks" for Uncle Sam. He holds tankers at the utmost respect for they kept the enemy infantry out of the airbase.

I want one...that and a Comet will have a permanent home in my garage...affter all, 5 Isreali Centurion Mk III's destroyed nearly 100 T-55's in the Yom Kippur War on the Golan Heights.  That's for me!

I believe there were more than 5 Israeli Centurions there at the time and they were at least Mk 5s, not sure if they were all 5/2 standard by then with the 105 L7 though.

Tankeroos! If you build model tanks, AFV Club's got a decent 1:35 RAAC Centurion Mk 5/1.

you can forget about this tank being better than a t-54. the Russian developers arent gonna let that happen. even if it was true and documented about there combat stats when fighting them.
