I know right? A guide for the KV-5 NEEDS to be stickied, cos too many people who don't know how to drive the KV-5= more fail teams = more rage

KV5 is one of the few high tier tanks I never fear. To slow to pursue, to slow to keep you targeted if you get in close, the gun on it is a joke. It has decent armor but that doesn't matter when your front is covered by very large very weak MG turrets that even a Chaffee can light you up through. On that note, directly behind that vent is the main turret. If it is so easily pen'd, wouldn't the shell proceed directly into the heavy armor on the front turret? Or does it hit the smaller MG turret then make a 90 degree turn down and then another 90 degree turn to straighten itself out?

Before I am flamed saying I dont know how to driver the KV-5, I am an Ace with it....as in top 99%. Anyone who drives a Prototype 59 knows that it deflects like a champ. Maybe not compeletly OP but very close. If used correctly you are one of the most dangerous tanks on any battlefield, thats just a fact. ;) Give the props to Type59 for being an AMAZING tank!

people buy the T59 over the KV5 because simply put the KV5 sucks compared to the other tier 8 prem

prem tanks are all about making credits, and the lowe AND the T59 are both MUCH better at that, while when the KV5 came out noboby knew how to kill them, but now EVERYONE knows, they are easy to kill as any tank

if you want a heavy prem tank you buy the Lowe
if you want a fun prem tank you buy the T59
if you want to pretty much waste 7500 gold and be angry you buy the KV5

i will however +1 you for the time and effort you put in, and this guide IS helpful for those people that DO have/buy a KV5
And this is something you hear from someone who can't run the tank. If used right the KV-5 is a monster of a tank. Typical, it's because its gun isn't uber that ppl hate on it. Thats fine because the lowe has its share of weak spots. Honestly I last longer in battles with my Kv-5 then the Lowe, angling the hull with the KV-5 actually works...where it doesnt with the lowe.

Ofcourse, late 50s tank fighting ww2 tanks. Clearly its much better. The tank is tough because it is one of the kings of the battle field....... Its one of the most modern tanks in the game

Since people are all claiming that the other tier 8 premiums/tanks are all better, do you REALLY want me to dedicate more of my time to finding ways to kill the other tanks?  :Smile_honoring:

Right...You earned the Ace Mastery medal and that makes you an ace KV-5 tanker?

You realise that the Ace Mastery medal is received if you have one amazing battle that nets you more XP than average XP achieved by 99% of other KV-5 tankers as their average, right?

I also have one of those Ace Mastery medals in my KV-5 and given how poor the average KV-5 player is anyone with a win rare higher than 48% in the KV-5 probably does too.

Your 49% win rate in the KV-5 indicates that you are decent with it but not that amazing.

Now that you're done making a fool of yourself, can we get back to discussing more ways to have awesome KV-5 battles :-)

Ok, awesome battle I once had in my KV-5: I was top tank on Lakeville, and charged out into the middle. I also bounced most of the shots that were fired at me ;) got 7 kills I think

Just an observation...sure would be nice if the KV-5 got the KV-4 107mm (ZiS-24)...better pen.  Not that I'm complaining but it would be a sweet upgrade.

That I think SHOULD happen, because as the tank stands now it only works if played aggressively ;) With that gun, less people would fail as pointing and shooting might work for the people who don't aim at weakspots. Of course, with that gun, the tank would become very useful for people who know how to use it... :D

With that gun they'd have to price that tank at about 12000 gold to balance it out.

The Lowe's weakspot is even easier to hit to be honest.

Sorry mate, thought I could come in and give my opinion without having anyone resort to insults  :Smile-hiding: . Not saying the KV-5 is a horrible tank, I just don't think it's underrated. Besides Win Rate is largely dependant on your team and so means nothing.

Also I was looking for other players insight's into why the vent hits cause so much damage. I appreciate your constructive input of "Now that you're done making a fool of yourself" but does anyone else have any thoughts on why the shells don't pass through and hit my big ole' turret front?

One of my favorite tactics, although difficult to pull off, is to literally crash into the flank of an enemy group. The KV-5's speed may suprise you! No literally, smash into the lightest tank you see  :Smile-izmena: . As you know many players will go the same route and often bunch up around one particular area. Because of the large amount of HP you have in the KV-5 charging is sometimes your best option. It's also unexpected as most KV-5 drivers go straight into the NME front lines. Being close in allows to use NME tanks as cover and the confusion offers others on your team to get the shots needed as the NME group circles around trying to take you out. You obviously have to weigh your options. This tactic won't work against, say four IS7 I dont think. The tricky part is ofcourse manuevering into position. KV-5 a great tank to flank with! This can very likely lead you to Steel Wall and a nice lump sum of creds at the end of the match. These upclose battles are also a great time to use the previously stated tactic of having the rear of your tank toward the NME or having only your rear showing while keeping that vent of yours safely behind cover. And if your teamates don't push in during the confusion to support, well you're in a KV-5....you'll still make some creds  :Smile-playing:

I myself took out IS3, JgPanther, and another KV-5 using this exact tactic...with the support of a T6 medium!(sorry can't remember what it was)Against most equal tier tanks playing peak-a-boo is not your best bet anyway as the first thing you normally show is that big sore spot of a vent that will cause you serious pain and suffering if hit. Your cannon is also not exactly a show stopper when compares to IS3, Tiger II, etc.

KV-5 Rule #1 - Protect your vent!

What is the weakspot you are speaking of? The hatch on the back of the turret?

The Lower Glacis on the front of the Lowe is incredibly soft. As in, 95% chance to pen head-on, 75% chance to pen angled.

Also, the sides are a 95% pen as is the whole rear.

Sorry for being caustic, the internet sometimes affects my civility negatively.

As for the shells not passing through, it's how the tank is balanced. All Tier 8 Premiums have some major weakspot or other. It's how they work.

you said that the KT was the best tier 8, i would have to disagree, as i can easily kill them in my t32 via facehug, or at a distance :)
