KV-5 plays best when it's afire and a burning hulk of 7,500 gold you can never get back--should've got a Type 59 instead!  :Smile-playing::Smile-izmena:
Downvoted for ten reasons:
1: Being a fanboi.
2: Trolling.
3: KV-5 is just as useful as a T59 or Lowe, different roles and drawbacks that should elicit a different playing style for each of those tanks.
4: Cause everyone else is gonna down vote ya.
5: I don't care, GTFO.
6: KV-5 is great for credit farming, so is the Lowe, and the T59 now with the 5% modifier boost is also decent. All of them for a good match currently max out at around 130k-150k.
7: Example of why blatantly saying stupid stuff doesn't work: "If you see it as a burning hulk, that's your problem, because I see the your T30 being the same thing in pubs and clan wars: worthless. It rarely is utilize correctly, and few maps allow it to hull down effectively. Should've bought a T95." But do I care? Nope. Cause you can talk shit as much as you want, but it won't matter when your team gets owned.
8: Idiots like you who see tanks as burning hulks are always too worried about their own asses to utilize the openings that even a derp KV-5 brings to the table. Everyone shoots at it, half of the time they bounce. It soaks damage quite effectively, and in turn can scout for sniper tanks like the Lowe.
9: Same thing with the M6, or T34. They can still be utilized if they don't get ostracized or go off and do lone wolf stupidity.
10: Play more high tier battles, then you'll find that the tanks which really get killed often (and are in turn worthless) are the T9s and T10s which think a derp tank is an easy kill, engage it, and in turn get killed by arty or supporting teammates. Currently I pair up with my buddy in his Lorraine T40 or AMX50 120 and while I'm soaking damage, he deals it out faster then I take it, ending up with most of the enemy team destroyed or damaged. Team work, use it. Even pub matches can have the occasional bright teammates.
Respectfully,
PROACEX1

nepos you summed it up pretty well. The KV5 is ok if you have support but most players dont have a clue how to support anyone other than themselves. Its gun is worthless when you get into higher tier games and it would be nice to get a better cannon on it. If WOT would give it a little better gun this would be an awesome tank for my style of play. I love ramming people but I find you have to be going downhill for the speed and the other person not see you or they move out of the way and the KV5 turns to slow to compensate. A better cannon and then you could track them and then ram them.

Just like in the Churchill i get laughed at alot by my teamates, but they usually change their opinion when the game is done once i win the game almost single handed, id post my stats but the last time i did that i got accused of using gold ammo haha.

very underrated tank, but i like proving people wrong so thats fine by me.

A Churchill's 6 pdr gun can be iffy. I sold my Ram II for the same very reason. It was a great tank, but with its lack of accuracy and 7.0's normalisation changes, I found the T-25 to be more reliable. But a KV-5's greatest advantage is that people underestimate you, and by the time they found out you're skilled enough to bury rounds into their weakspots, (I favehug and aim for copulas vs certain tanks), its far too late.

If you check my stats, you can see that I'm not bad with my KV-5, but I do have a love/hate relationship with it.  It's such a different playstyle that I don't always want to play it, but sometime,  stuff like this happens.  Keep in mind that's a loss.  Me and two other defended against a Type 59 rush.  There were I think 3 Type 59s, a T20, and after that an SU or ISU 152.  The Type 59s kept showing their sides, getting shot, and then hiding behind cover.  Ultimately, I was one of two tanks left versus their two tanks and an artillery, so you can guess how that ended.

Even if you are swarmed, it will take forever for them to kill you, so don't give up.  Get in every bit of damage that you can so you can see things like that!  Even in poorer games going down fighting will net you a significant number of credits solely because it takes you a long time to go down.

Sometimes I feel sorry for KV-5 drivers when I am in my Type 59. I can just stand there and bounce their shells while most of mine penetrate.

I also feel sorry for Type 59's who sit there and are easy rammable targets while I pop its hatch, or the circle strafing idiots who leave their side exposed while they bounce off my 150mm side armor because they have no clear shot at my R2D2.

KV-5's rarely have skilled players behind them. But when they do, you wished they were easier to penetrate, like a Lowe.

Agreed^^^  very underestimated tank!!! Alot of people have no clue how to play most tanks much less the premiums that have their own roles. Lowe is nothing ut a sniper tank and used at that will mean almost always 90-120k silver games. KV5 is a brawler but played smartly! I have no issues taking down 59's as you just need to know the week spots as I do because it helps owning one haha. Even though the KV is ugly I like it!!!

As a KV-5 driver, how do you penetrate an IS-3 or T32 from the front with your 107mm?  KTs are easy, just hit the cupola.  But I'm wondering about the other two, since I'm sure you've had lots of experience going head-to-head with them and trying to penetrate any weakspot you can before they kill you.

In general, I try to avoid having to face other tier 8s 1 on 1 because the KV-5's gun has such bad pen. However, the hull of the T32 is pretty easy as long as you don't hit it at a bad angle. As for the IS-3, well I'll try to shoot something else if I have the option. If I'm forced to confront it, I'll either try for the lower hull, or if I have a decent angle that negates some of the upper hull's slope, I'll go for that.

Added some stuff, how to kill other tier 8s in KV-5 is up, any questions, post them in this thread. I will be leaving on a trip for one week and will be unable to do anything to add to this guide. If any of you think that the guide is too long, please PM me or make a post in the thread "complaining" :P about it.

Try the T-54, then come back and tell me the Type 59 is better :P
I have a T-54, and unless you are very lucky in your/a type 59, a good KV-5 driver will win everytime 1v1 due to how the KV-5 has more hp, is harder to kill, and the cupolas on a type 59 are easy to hit

Very good guide.

As with any tank, there are lovers and haters.

Love mine. It's a moneymaker, much better than the Type 59.

Last match: 4400XP (doubled), 114K experience. 9 kills including an epic 5 on one final battle.  Got my first Boelter's Medal.

This tank is a brawler: I find it best to be in urban, tight spaces where it is difficult to flank me.  I run with the spall liner which has provided the difference between dying and getting one last shot to kill an adversary.  I also use the gun stab which allows me the leeway to sit back early in matches and snipe quite effectively.  I recently started experimenting with optics on board as well and am still evaluating the benifits.

I've fought a number of matches where I have taken over 60 hits.  Sure, you have to watch the Tier 9 and 10s, but you can also do some damage if you play this properly.

Overall, a lot of fun as a tank and one that allows you to get down and dirty.
