Type 59 is a easy kill in the KV5, I destroy Lowe as much as they kill me.  The difference in credits made with the T8 prems is not worth the extra $15 for a Lowe.  Guy in the clan may get 50 or 60 k a match but with repairs and ammo for the lowe they spend alot on refit.  In the KV5 its 9Kish for repairs and ammo is dirt cheap(one plus for the gun lol.).  WHen all is said and done I don't make that much less.  When I had a prem account I made on average win 50 or 60k and never more than 15k in costs.

So go ahead and waste the $15 extra for the Lowe not really worth it to me.

Liked the guide.  I just got a KV5 yesterday and wondered what people were hitting on me.  R2D2...ok then.  Some more learning to do.

Thanks

Another thing is, if any of you have trouble with any lower tier tanks, tell me why with a PM (if you are too embarrassed ;)) or post in this thread and I'll get back to you asap.

Interesting guide.. Just got a Type 59 recently, friend of mine has a KV-5. Will not try and argue the point that the KV-5 will win 1v1, but the 59 can do something the KV5 cant, and that's choosing the engagement. I won't go 1v1 against a equal tier tank most times, I'll go find something that's already engaged/distracted and engage it. That way they spend more time not shooting my allies, and being shot by at least two people. After that's mopped up, on to that now lonely KV-5.

Also- shooting a friend's KV5 is fun when you're doing it in a stock IS(no 100mm for me, used the KV-1S)... I kept bouncing off his turret while we drove to the battle

Agreed with OP 100%

I have over 1200 battles in a kv5, and I dont regret buying it one bit. I tested out the t59 on the test servers, needless to say I never want to touch them again, or any Soviet mediums in general.

If ur not shooting its weak spots, its armor, when angled, its nearly impossible to pen. Check out this screen shot i posted. At 8PRM, it will chew apart lower tiers in no time or side/rear armor in no time.

I had a bad team, but I made the best of it.

92 hits taken. Dayum.

And yeah... I just got my KV-5 yesterday as a gift. I'm absolutely loving it, not only for the credit gain, but, honestly, this thing just kicks ass. The weaker gun isn't a big deal, just aim at weak spots and the low pen isn't nearly as noticeable. As for the R2-D2, its surprisingly easy to protect from what I've found.

And thats not even mentioning how much fun it is to drive down a hill and plow right into anybody unlucky enough to be in the way. Its like a damn meteor.  :Smile-playing:

I had a hell of a battle in my KV-5 the other day. I found my self in a one on one battle with a T32, so we started trading shots. Being the not-idiot that I am, I knew to shoot at his hull. What I wasn't expecting was to bounce probably 8 shots off his hull!! After a few minutes, I had under 200 hp left and the T32 was dead. Having started this fight very early in the battle, you can imagine my surprise when I looked at the team lists and realized that there were only about 5 tanks left on each side! After the battle I found myself with Steel Wall and Sniper; not a huge surprise since all but one or two of my shots were from a maximum of 30m away. I have a replay of it on my home computer that I might upload if I get around to it.

Bought a KV-5 2 days ago.

Preamble:
As I was moving out of spawn accidently hit and damaged a friendly Hertzer. Hertzer and 1 of his mates started shooting at me and I shot back killing both, resulting in my team killing me for some reason.

Body:
Once my 24h ban wore off I got right in my KV and what a beast it is. It is truly a stallion amongst tanks. Gun is quite accurate, good reload and will pen pretty much anything up to a E-75.
It is a thinking man's tank no doubt, you have to think carefuly where you are going and who is there to support you. I'm a pretty average player, but I loved the fact at how this tank can turn the tide of battle if you play conservativley and teh amount of credits it generates.

Totaly worth it.

Fist_NZ, if someone shoots at you, let them bounce and waste their shots. If they penetrate, then kill them. However, you shot them first, so best thing would've been to say "sorry" and then driven off, letting their puny shots bounce off you :P. If someone blocks you, shoots and damage you severely, or some other very annoying/potentially lethal effect, I either ask them to move/stop doing that then shoot, or if they penetrate and do 100+ dmg, I then normally start a shooting match to kill them unless they are a tier 8, but I have found no stupid tier 8+s yet....
Public opinion: don't teamkill. my opinion: kill only one person, that way you get satisfaction with no ban, and you only get a fine.:P I once teamkilled a VK3001P who blocked me, ammo racked him, got a 27k fine in return :). For those of you who now think that "Teamkilling/blocking/spamming is fun and condoned by this awesome person!", don't. I know what I am doing when I decide to teamkill my "allies", and I accept that I may get a ban/fine/punishment because of it.
tl;dr
say sorry if you are in wrong, ignore their shots/make them bounce off by angling your armor, teamkilling is bad, I teamkill only one person cos its the limit, i do it cos i can aford the fines, i don't condone teamkilling/blocking/spamming, and if you get banned, its YOUR fault.
Fist_NZ, this is not a calling out/whatever for you, i'm just stating my opinion of what i would've done in that situation.

Also, does anyone want a guide on a tank? I can make a dedicated guide for it like this one :)

Agreed^^^  very underestimated tank!!! Alot of people have no clue how to play most tanks much less the premiums that have their own roles. Lowe is nothing ut a sniper tank and used at that will mean almost always 90-120k silver games. KV5 is a brawler but played smartly! I have no issues taking down 59's as you just need to know the week spots as I do because it helps owning one haha. Even though the KV is ugly I like it!!!

I agree about the Type 59 vs a KV-5. Funny how when I am getting hit it does not phase me as I get hit alot. However you drop a full health 59 to a 1/2 they start freaking out allowing me easier shots or allowing me to ram them.

When I get it right I get around 100k, when I get it wrong I net 50K and when I really screw up I make 25K.

Best thing about a Premium tank is all my other tanks now have rammers and optics ects....

just have a quick question... the kv5 has both a large and a small r2d2 in front of the turret.

i blasted several holes in the larger bump at point-blank range at an enemy kv5 with minimal damage...  i could see the holes i created!

so i d/ed the koreanrandom hitbox map, and it shows the smaller bump as the only weak point, not the larger 'MG turret' r2d2.

is that right, and did i just miss that in your guide?

i've been protecting the wrong darn r2d2!

The larger one is the target.  What were you using to hit it?  I hit it with the KV5 107 or similar gun on other tanks and take a nice chunk off each time (15-20%).

the larger r2d2 one is the one that hurts me. After a battle I server I love seeing all the holes some players put into it.

so i did a quick search and found out that the weakest spot on the bigger r2d2 is the vertical slot where the machine gun would be sticking out.

sigh...

I absolutely destroy KV-5's in my Type. On the weekend I solo's a KV-5 for a loss of 10 hp. A few games later I fought two at the same time. Got up close and used the first one as a sheild from the second. Just kept driving and keeping the first in the way of the second. Killed the first, beat the other down to 10% before an E-75 relocated and tracked me from distance. Any of you ever want a training room showdown, I will show you why you wasted $35.00 on a sub par tank because you were to slow to get the decent one while it was out.

As far as the Type59 goes.....everyone bitches about them yet everyone and their dog seems to have one.....go figure.

I'm a big fan of my KV-5.  Pulled a Bilotte's/Top Gun/126K in it the other day.  I agree it's underrated, but it can't really handle brawling with stuff above its tier (and usually not even heavies OF its tier), like the Lowe can sort of handle.
