OOPS

Here is a battle in Fisherman's Bay which offers a few good lessons.

First, notice the cursing of MM at the start because the red team has so many T-59s.  No doubt, some of our team wrote of the battle before it began.  But, we won!  Never count yourself out of a battle - ESPECIALLY before it even starts!

Second, notice before the battle begins, I tell my team mates of my intent to wait on the enemy scout.  Doing so lets them know what I am up to and helps prevent them from chastising me for not rushing off to death.

Third, I make an egregious error at the end of my run.  I thought the GW Panther had recently fired and I had time to close before turning.  I was wrong...lol  No one else was firing at me so I should have played it safe and made a circling approach.  Doing so would have forced him to rotate and greatly decrease his aim.

The battle:

I started off waiting on the T-50-2 because, well, it is just in their DNA to press the accelerator hard and invade.  He didn't disappoint.  I didn't get the kill, but I stopped him in his tracks and someone else finished him off before I could get a second shot.  Then, as I was assessing the map to see where I should go, the enemy launched a full frontal assault.  My first thought was to help defend but my second thought won out:  "If they are sending this many up the middle, they must have almost no one at home defending their arty."  So, I decided to sneak along the outskirts of town into their rear.  I rounded a building at full speed to see a previously unseen heavy and traded shots as I sped past.  He landed the harder hit but I was still alive so all was well.  I continued my penetration using the buildings and rocks to shield myself from a second shot.  Clearing the town, I saw one of their arties ahead and a T28 all by  himself over the ridge to the right (near their base).  The arty wasn't aimed at me so I went full bore almost directly at him and killed him with little effort.  I then continued up the terrace and found the T28 pointed almost directly at me.  Fortunately I was still at speed and had his flank before he could fire.  I then just stayed on his rear and side and whittled him down from 100% to scrap metal.  As I approached him, I noticed their other arty in a bush far ahead to my 11 o'clock.  I decided to take out the T28, thinking our arty would kill theirs.  Instead, our arty kept hammering at their attack so I  had to keep moving to avoid potential GW Panther shots while I dealt with the T28.  As soon as the TD died, I turned towards the arty and got stupid.  He was pointed right at me and I should have begun going lateral to him immediately but, as I said, I thought he had recently fired and I had time to close a bit.  OOPS!

Oh well, I still had a good run, made a decent profit and most importantly - we won!

Nothing special about this public battle except for one thing.  Look at my kills: unknowingly,  I took out an entire platoon of tanks from the Beast_of_the East Clan [BE].   Even worse, it was their Commander, a Deputy Commanders and  a Field Commander.  guess they won't be inviting me over for cookies anytime soon :(

I didn't make many credits on this Lakeville Mission (about 1,000 profit), but i got an Orlik's, Kamikaze and Defender.  The Defender also gave me the Kay's Medal Class II (for 100 Battle Hero awards) for my Cougar.

I start off anti-scouting.  I get the AMX 12t set up perfect, but miss the shot :/  I end up back in the middle of town with a TD ahead of me and a T-44 approaching from another angle.  I decide to take on the 44 so he cant team up on a TD to my rear.  I don't think the 44 knows where i am cause he comes around the corner and we collide.  His gun isn't pointed towards me so I think I was a surprise to him.  I notice he took damage from the ram and I didn't.   I trade a shot or two with him and retreat behind the corner, but the TD is still there fighting my teammate.  so I gun it and get another shot on the 44 (who has taken some damage from someone else along the way.  We are both beat up and no matter where I go I will run into another enemy so I decide to finish it with the 44.  I shoot him and ram him.  On the second ram he dies.  I can now sneak behind the TD and finish him off.  somehow, my first shot seemingly goes right through him, but my second shot gets the kill.  By this time someone is on our base.  As I head back, I can tell it is probably 2 or more because the ticker is advancing fast.  I don't have enough hit points left to win the upcoming fight but I can get there fastest so off I go.  In my book, it's better to die and win than stay alive and lose.  I kill the one tank as I move in and my good friend, the TD ( I think an SU-?) that was beside me back in town gets the second tank before I get a chance to shoot him (he had a perfect opportunity to kill me but missed the shot - big lesson here - it is far better to take a half second longer and hit than rush a shot and miss.).  The base defense pretty much guarantees us the win but we still have a Tiger to deal with.  Fortunately, no one plays hero and rushes him alone.  We let the TD go up the valley and as he rounds the corner, we all advance to victory.

In n Out Burger

Here is a mission in Erlenberg where I get in, kill their arty, and get out.

I start off doing a little scouting jaunt down the left side.  I see the 13 75 making his own arty run so I stay ahead of him on the other side of the mountains and am set up to track him as he pops out from his cover.  Someone else gets the kill shot, but he died, arty lived, so mission accomplished.   I then switch to a slightly delayed scout/anti-arty run.  Erlenberg is perfectly suited for this combo of missions and this route works way more than it should.  On the way in, I try to turn just enough to prevent direct hits and use the up and down of the hills to help me.  Switching back and forth across the crest of the hill also helps, depending on where you are taking fire from.  I end up killing both their arty with a friendly assist, I believe (was kind of too busy too notice who picked him off) from my arty to take out one of their tanks who pursues.   I then survive the rush back towards cover and let my team, who played great throughout, mop up the remaining tanks.  Nothing spectacular score-wise but a good film of the VK-2801 Cougar screwing with the enemy mind.  When you get the enemy to concentrate on you, you give your team great chances to achieve tactical advantage, hits, and kills.

PS:  The movie points out something good to remember when you are anti-scouting.  As the medium approaches me when I'm behind the dead arty, he pulls right up to it.  REALLY bad idea.  Our arty was about to fire at the arty (I killed it first) so he ended up dead fast.  When YOU are the one chasing the raider, don't go park your tank by a prime target for their arty! Be aware enough to realize their arty was busy aiming for your arty and you are entering an extreme hot zone.

Easiest Top Gun Ever...

Just 2 missions after the In n Out Burger, I get a relatively low tier battle in Mines.  VK-2801s can dominate matches like this.  I immediately head for the hill with a medium trailing in support.  A T-50 beats me there but gives me his side in doing so.  Not a good idea.  Once on the hill, I destroy 3 more tanks trying take control of the hill and an M3 sitting over on North Sniper Hill.  For the 6th kill, I finish off a Tiger P.  I try to get a kill or two more but narrowly miss getting the last shot on the 7th.   This was by far, the easiest Top Gun I've ever had in my Cougar!

SHOWDOWN at the ABBEY CORRAL (or Ring Aound the Rosie):

This was just a run of the mill battle until the end.  I was supporting from distance and we were ahead 7 tanks left to 2 (I think).  I had 0 kills but some damage dealt.   Then, things started to go downhill.  As I crossed the field to go kill the T-28 (I think) the IS-3 got a hard shot on me.  As I dispatched the TD (with help), the odds became us: 5 tanks, them: the IS-3.  He already had 4 kills so he was playing well.  Fighting on and around their cap area, he whittled it down to him against me.   Basically, 1 hit by him would kill me.  He still had something like 300 hit points left.  I wasn't about to 1 shot him unless I got an ammo rack and I wasn't going to have time to aim my shots well. So, I started dancing with him around the rocks just off the cap area trying to figure out where I could get shots.  It took numerous laps around the rocks but the fight eventually ended...

ARTY - ITS WHAT'S FOR BREAKFAST

Another Erlenberg battle.  Lots of low level arty.  I run my favorite route on this one.  At times, I look drunk driving but it was my first mission of the day and my skills were obviously a bit off.  When I stop on the bridge then hit a building I was trying to use CONTROL/mini-map to show where I was headed and I hit the wrong button, screwing up my steering momentarily.

RUNNIN' the RIDGE

This is my very next battle after my ARTY - ITS WHAT'S FOR BREAKFAST mission!

I find myself in Prok.  The initial Half Court Scouting run reveals an enemy Leopard up to no good along the center edge.  I want to keep control of him as I play because I am sure he is hoping to sneak up the center side he is on.  Because of him and the fact lower levels Prok battles such as this tend to have multiple enemies in the center area ready to intercept me or follow me and cutoff escapes routes,  I don't venture very deep until those threat are dealt with.  Then, I alert the west side campers we are about to go to work and penetrate deeper just as the East side is breaking through.  As a parting gift to myself,  I get the last kill.

Fishin' fer Varmits

TOP GUN

Relatively low level battle in Fisherman's Bay...  I start off with a Half Court probe and as I begin to circle back, another of our Scouts goes deep.  Everyone collapses on him except a Lee, so I head back and engage the Lee.  As he dies, 2 T-28s approach 1 trailing the other.  Easy work there as I use bldgs and dead tanks to minimize exposure. (Why a 28 rams a 2801, I'm not sure, but he did.)  I have 3 of our first 4 kills. I pull back assessing the battlefield, then advance and get a kill on a TD.  An enemy Chaffee and I want to fight but we know it will probably be fatal to both of us. I already have seen a glimpse of a Hummel somewhere in the center, sure death if the Chaffee tracks me.  I withdraw and he dies as he tries to run laterally with me.  The West Side is doing well, but we have 2 heavies with their hands full in the City so I head that way and kill a Churchill.  Only a Hummel and small medium remain...  I catch the rear of the Hummel as his attention is to the West for my 6th kill but the other tank dies before I get a chance for 7. I spent 90% of the fight reacting to situations instead of creating them, but the 2801 excels at that style of play!

This Fjord Was so Fast, It Must Have Been a Mjustang!

I start off heading for a great Ninja Spot.  I couldn't really get hidden the way I wanted so I moved up a tad just in time.  A T-59 cruised by and despite being pretty close, never paid any attention to me.  But I wasn't fully hidden to my side so he ended up exposing me to a Heavy which was trailing him.  I could have retreated or advanced and with the map looking like I had a clear shot to their Arty, I gunned it, hoping the rock and hill would keep me from taking a second hit.  I ran straight to the Arty and wiped them both out, but as I was leaving the little hill the Arty like to hide on, a Chaffee came straight at me.  Bam! Ram! thank you Ma'am! and off to cap the base I go.  By this time, their entire team was decimated.   I didn't have time to see what all had been going on behind me, but obviously my team was playing well all over the map.  No one had a chance to challenge my cap and I walked away with 3 kills and one of the easiest Invaders I've ever had.

SCOUT
2649 XP (non-doubled)

This is a fun mission I had in Steppes.  We go down early on 3-7 but pull it together as a team and I get to totally tee off on a T95 at the end.  Lots of flanking mixed in with Half-Court Scouting, Disruption Scouting and a Delayed Rush.

Started off with a Half Court Scouting sweep and found their KVs rushing the center buildings with some other support.  Some of our forces went to meet them while I dove down into the City to, I thought, get a Hetzer.  Turns out there were 2 there!  After almost killing another tank (someone beat me to the kill shot), I went deep hoping to get behind the folks fighting in the middle.  I got a blind kill on a KV and then 2 more TDs before the last remaining KV came in determined to do me in.   KVs just can't get a gun on a 2801 if you are up close; he died for my 6th kill.

Check it

If I got more battles in this thing against hapless lightly armored tanks I would be muuuuuuuuuuuuch happier

Also there are some clan platoons I like seeing in the enemy team, the one here is one such clan platoon.

Good job lostwingman!  When I was watching, I was thinking you would get the Ferdi, too but it took a big hit at the end.  Yeah, I love the Tier VII and VIII battles; lots of potential for high kill totals.
