Nicely done.

I have my own form of zimmerit but it doesn't look nearly as good.

Do not save your file with an alpha channel. Because if you edit the alpha channel the skin will only show what's white in the alpha channel. (since you only can use black and white in the alpha channel)
The usage of an alpha channel dramatically increases the file size of the skin so it's not needed either.

But a nice and understandable tutorial Lack_26 good work.

it's very useful to save all zimmerit layers either alpha channel one or the standard one on the texture so keep your backup psd files with layers. It will be so easy to apply it to any texture you make for your tank in the future.

Ok heads up for those reading this then banging head on the wall.

1.) DDS plugin ONLY works for 32bit Photoshop.
2.) Save Settings I used are
-32.32.32.32f ABGR 128 bpp | floating point            <-- is all the way at bottom of first drop down.
    -2D Texture
-Use Existing MIP Maps                                 <-- is on the right under MIP Map Generation
3.) Save

I should be posting some of my Crimson Brigade paint schemes soon ;)

Excellent tutorial , the same technique is used in every dds tank , i know from my experience skinning COH , although sometimes for the nrm you must also use overlay and emboss and not the nprmal map from dds plug in.
Thanks for your tutorial , I hopped to get a license and start skinning here as well ;)

You are welcome Geo , Hope to see your exploits here also :)

a couple of pics to show how rough n ready zimmerit was applied to chassis areas

waffle pattern - http://www.andreasla...35/53103508.jpg
tile pattern - http://www.andreasla.../ym53104801.jpg

extract from stuGIII site "The 1944 batch StuG's were manufactured in either the Alkett- or the MIAG -factories. The zimmerit makes it easy to spot the manufacturer of the vehicle, with the "Waffle-pattern" zimmerit being a vehicle from Alkett and the "tile-pattern" zimmerit beeing a vehicle from MIAG."

I can't get the Normal Map plugin to work, I've put the files in the right places and restarted Gimp many times, but still no luck. Any help?
