You can't edit this, it will changes to old values if you launch the client (i tried)
Try to make that file read only (right click at file then checked read only box)
Besides this way if you are using the game booster?

You have to go to your world of tanks folder. Then right click. Go to options and click show hidden files. This allows you to be able to edit the preferences.xml file. I have vista and was running only 5 to 6 fps. After the changes to terrain_mesh i am now up to 20 to 25 fps.

Is there a way to remove smoke from dead tanks or the smoke from your gun when you're using a Hetzer, or the smoke of a shot that hit the ground?

These are all my main FPS suckers, any help would be appreciated.

To remove smoke from dead tanks just read the topic.

To remove smoke from firing gun and ground hits, do as follows:
1. Go to res\particles\Shells_Eff\
2. Rename or move to different folder all files with GroundHit in name (total of 8 files).
3. Go to res\particles\Tank\
4. Rename or move to different folder all files with shot in name (total of 9 files).

You are welcome.

My WoT folder is empty. I have made sure that all hidden files are shown yet there still nothing there. Anyone have any idea were the files are for the smoke?

For my computer, the folders/files are in:

C:/Games/World_of_Tanks/res....etc

Also, you can right click on your Desktop shortcut for W.o.T., then click Properties. This will show you the Target of the shortcut.  All your files will be where the .exe file is.

I'm using windows 7. I've found the folder yet it's empty. Doing a search of the computer results in the same folder being found. The show all files box is checked so I'm not sure where to look now.

i am playing with 55-70 fps on average. how the hell do u guys play with 20-30 fps, let alone 5-10fps and still feel contended with it. anyway i read about a post(which i just cant find) that mentioned something about tweaking some settings that allows a 32-bit system to increases ram usage for WoT, which by default only allows for 2/3gb of ram. i have 6 gb on my machine and wants to utlise more of it.

Any1?

DISCLAIMER YOU ARE DOING ALL THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HAPPEN, UNLESS IT WORKS THAN YOU CAN SAY THANK YOU :D

Also if you really need to boost FPS you can remove some file: .....

1st let me say TTTTTHHHHHHHAAAAANNNNNNKKKKKK YOOOOOOUUUUU!!!!!!!!! and
2nd:
--- maybe add something about the WOT tweaker program AND about how to disable foliage sway like from this post how to {FULLY} disable foliage sway

edit note: i did see that WOT Tweaker removes plant sway BUT it doesnt fully disable it like the post mentioned above does =)

I know that most might not be watching this thread, but I'll throw out these questions anyway.

Why is it that some xml files can be seen quite nicely in Notepad, while others have all kinds of symbols and don't resemble the nice ones at all, making it impossible to edit?

Is there a way to edit those "not-so-nice" xml files?

Thanks.

Because you can put a lot of different thing in a xml, including binary data. There is a way to edit those data, but just mentioning it on this forum may end in a ban.
