Game settings in preferences.xml

If I was the only one that was unable to find Roaming then I have the solution here.
Go back to tools > folder options > view
Find hide protected operating system files.
Click on it to unfill the circle.
It should appear now.
Enjoy.

Has anyone been able to turn off the FPS / Ping counter?  I'm having zero luck with the showFPS to false.

[Screen resolution: if you need display resolution, which is not available from the menu, find the following lines
<fullscreenWidth> 1024 </fullscreenWidth>
<fullscreenHeight> 768 </fullscreenHeight>
and change the corresponding values.

Eu posso usar a resolução 800x600 com esse comando?

Edit: Consegui

Well all of those things were figured out by testing. You are welcome to do some tests and let me know what files responsible for what - I'll gladly update the post.

just some addition, beside smokes, trees and bushes really lowered my fps.. :(

adding a "2" to all the files that contain "shot" (which seems pretty obvious) removes the smoke and what not when you shoot :)

This part looks related:

<controlMode>
	<sniperMode>
		<camera>
			<horzInvert>	false	</horzInvert>
			<vertInvert>	false	</vertInvert>
			<keySensitivity>	1.000000	</keySensitivity>
			<sensitivity>	1.000000	</sensitivity>
			<scrollSensitivity>	1.000000	</scrollSensitivity>
		</camera>
	</sniperMode>
	<arcadeMode>
		<camera>
			<horzInvert>	false	</horzInvert>
			<vertInvert>	false	</vertInvert>
			<keySensitivity>	1.000000	</keySensitivity>
			<sensitivity>	1.000000	</sensitivity>
			<scrollSensitivity>	1.000000	</scrollSensitivity>
		</camera>
	</arcadeMode>
	<strategicMode>
		<camera>
			<keySensitivity>	1.000000	</keySensitivity>
			<sensitivity>	1.000000	</sensitivity>
			<scrollSensitivity>	1.000000	</scrollSensitivity>
		</camera>
	</strategicMode>
</controlMode>

at a guess, sniper mode is 1st person view, arcade is 3rd person and strategic is artillery topdown view

You'll have to identify files responsible for the muzzle flash and rename them.

Okay i have been playing a little with the "preferences.xml" file to see what things do, these are the ones that I have tested and what they do on my PC.
What they do are mostly explained in the first post.

NOTE: Will post screens of some of it.

MRT_DEPTH >> (0=ON - 1=OFF) When on gives you the Green or Red aura on tanks you point at.

SHADER_VERSION_CAP >> Not 100 % what this does yet, but at 3 or 2 it makes the ground in maps disapper. On 1 or 0 it's normal. Screenshot: TBA
(Could someone explain what this does exactly)

SHADOWS_QUALITY >> Works as advertised.

SHADOWS_COUNT >> Works as advertised, but i would like an "OFF" for this also.

SPEEDTREE_QUALITY >> Works as advertised.

FLORA_DENSITY >> Works as advertised.

WATER_QUALITY >> Works as advertised.

So my conclution of the "preferences.xml" for WoT so far is that, it's a nice little tweak file for now, but i would like to see it cleaned up for dead settings and clearfied a bit more, and i know it's been said that a lot of this will enter the settings menu ingame, but still, i for one like to do certain settings in a file such as this, has done since IL-2.

Seems like MRT_depth 0 wont let you choose antialias anymore over 4. Weird. Also huge performance boost with high graphics was to Alt + Tab when match is started, must be some memory fart. After alt + tab, you get 100-500% increase in fps, from average 12 to 60 fps.

Turning on invert gives you inverted gunner controls but normal external view controls.

Oh...my....god! THANK YOU! The skyboxes were causing massive lag on my pathetic laptop! Now i can play something other than SPGs!

For anyone getting excessive fps drop from gun smoke while in internal view, try turning off anti-aliasing.  It could be a solution if you don't mind playing with normal jagged edge graphics.
