I can't get used to the D1's 25mm cannon. I use that gun because it has the most penetration and the best accuracy. But it seems to really, really, plunge downards much more rapidly than other guns. Also past a certain range, the game seems to just decide "Nope, your hits don't mean anything any more" and I get the red penetration indicator even when shooting at tanks with 15mm of armor - even if my shot goes straight through them nothing happens.
I have seen this before with auto cannons, but not with any other actual tier 2 gun. I'm used to being able to punch holes in whatever I can hit, even using a tank with similar penetration, the premium hotchkiss.
What is wrong with the D1's 25mm cannon?

This is because this distance of the target is too far for your gun to reach. Why this gun has range problems and the others don't is beyond my knowledge.

No other tier 2 tank seems to have this problem: I can make those shots with BT2s, T26's, Pz35s, etc, trivially easily.
I mean...why give the absolute SLOWEST tier 2 tank the shortest range gun? O.o

There are other small calibre guns in the game that also have limited range.
(I am asuming that by small caliber you are refering to short guns, autocannons, etc.)

Yes, I mentioned auto cannons. I am talking about normal guns. No other tier 2 normal gun that I have used (and I believe I have used them all) comes close to having this problem.
Particularly the premium hotchkiss which uses just about the same gun - can easily make shots the D1 cannot.

Which ones? Certainly doesn't seem to be any of the other top tier guns available.
Sorry, I don't remember which ones exactly, it's been a while since I drove around much in a tier 2 tank, and unless a gun is outstandingly good or it's bad and I'm forced to use it for a long time, I generally don't give them much thought.
What I do remember is that it's more than one gun, and the guns with the problem were all small calibre.

By "small calibre", I mean guns that are under ~40mm calibre, possibly just guns under 30mm. I would say it's an intentional design feature of such guns.

On everyone's very Campland map, I just use my 25mm arty and lob shots over to the other side, where they promptly go "tink" off the opposing tank" with no damage of course.
