Panzer IV J tank history

The tank Panzer IV was designed by German engineers before the Second World War in 1935. Produced from 1936, the tank was initially designed to provide infantry support, but during its first combat situations (first on the eastern front, then western front and then Mediterranean front), it appeard as being a real tank destroyer, despite the weakness of its shielding.

Starting from 1942, many changes were made to the Panzer IV, in order to focus on its anti-tank role. Thus, more than a dozen  were produced by the German industries.

The main changes came from the various lessons learned from battles in Poland and France: the shield was strengthened and its use was expanded in various missions.

More than 7,000 Panzer IV were built during the Second World War. This is one of the less expensive tanks of Germany (103,462 RM, more than half the price of a Tiger tank).

The Panzer IV class J model is the latest produced in the Second World War: the length of the barrel was increased, so was the thickness of the shielding.

With the modules that you can research in the game you have pretty much every version of the PZ IV that went into production or in experimental paper drawing.

Also the particular model the ausf J is available as a prem tank Panzer IV hydraulic.

The Ausf J which was the final version is regarded by historians as a backward step in the Pz IV series as the mobility of the tank was decreased significantly due to some changes made to simplify production time needed at the end of the WWII be the Germans.

The Ausf J was armed with the 75 mm KwK 40 L/48 not the StuK 40 L/43.

You can make a Ausf J in game minus the Schürzen skirt armour.

Edit: spelling.

And eventually the devs are going to add in skirt and applique type armor. At which point what would be the point of this Pz IV whose only unique factor is that it has skirts?

Why would you want an Ausf. J? It is a economized version with a hand cranked turret, inferior armor alloys, inferior fire controls and missing many hatches.

The Ausf. H is the ultimate version of the Pz IV built, the planed 28 tonne Ausf. H with sloping 80mm armor would have given the T34/85 and the M4A3E8 W/ M1A2 a run for its money.

But schürzen is not unique to the Ausf J.

Schürzen was also used on the Panzer III, Stug III and earler model Panzer IV's as well.

MAybe they will make skirts an optional kit that you can add to your tank. Like grousers, vents, camo nets, etc.

This would make for an interesting (read HARD) choice for Pz drivers.

Imagine a Pz3 with a choice between

a spall liner that reduces he/ram damage by 15%  an extra 20 mm of armour for the side/rear of the turret and side of hull?

Or even a Pz4 for that matter ...

Of couse this is moot if your tank doesn't have enough room on its suspension ...

All in all i like the idea. +1 from me!

Of course it would be nice also if we could actually SEE these improvements as we play. :Smile_great:

But the devs only have so many manhours to fix all the other stuff in the game that needs attention. So I wont wait with baited breath http://forum.worldof...ile_sceptic.gif

If I recall correctly, the late-model Ausf G was the first with the schürzen, and the Ausf H was the first series to feature it on all the tanks.

I thought this too at first.

Look closely: The hydraulics skirts are only on the turret, whereas the ausf.J has side skirts.

The only thing missing from the present pz4 in game is the actual skirts and turret guards.  Everything else is in there at one point or another.  Because the game places such a HUGE need on upgrading the turret for HP's you very seldom see a "authentic" looking pz4 in play.

Always wish that turret was the top turret for the Panzer IV.  The Schmalturm is a fucking monstrosity.  At least the model swapping trick still works.

Also a little perplexing why side skirts aren't an equipment you can buy for certain tanks like rammer or camo net.  Something simple like +10% durability to tracks, plus it would look cool.
