I finaly have enough free xp to get the vk2801, but I heard that after 7.0 it was nurfed, and sucks now is that so? Is it still worth getting or should I look at other tier 5 light tanks.

I dont play my 28 too much, need money...

But nah, the VK2801 nerf is barely noticeable...  at least for me. The enemies it faced already had a lot of armor. But yeah, some shots may not even do a tickle at all. But they are a bit weird for me.

It sucks now.  look at the t-50-2 or frenchy scouts which actually lead somewhere and don't have huge repair costs.

Absolutely incorrect. The VK2801 is still the only scout in the whole game that can mount a DERP gun. Its just a matter of taste.

It's kind of in the same role the M5 Stuart with the 75mm howitzer used to be.  It skulks around with its stellar acceleration and mugs targets where they can't get support quickly.

The VK-2801 Cougar remains the best Tier V light in the game.  The only exception is if you want to do pure scouting.  In that case, the T-50-2 is incomparable.  For all around play, however, the Cougar is an outstanding platform.  Take a look at the thread for good VK-2801 Cougar missions and you will see what the tank is capable of AFTER the 70./7.1 patch. .

VK2801 plays like a fast medium tank.  If you want a light tank that plays like a light tank, look elsewhere, otherwise just use the XP and go for good mediums and don't waste your time.  My preference is for Russian mediums, as you end up with the T54: the most pure expression of a proper medium tank in the game.

I said the 2801 plays like a fast medium.  So, lets compare it to the T5 german mediums.  



I removed speed related numbers, and altered some numbers to reflect the tanks as fully upgraded.  If I screwed up some numbers let me know.  

I'll stick by my comment, 2801 plays like a fast medium... because it is SO similar to them.

Other than speed and hit points, The mediums will cost about a 8th to rep compared to vk2801, and they aren't balanced into top tier battles.

We had a thread to discuss giving the 2801 a nickname and Cougar seemed to fit the best, all things considered, so I call it that.

If someone reading this thread is wondering if you should get a Cougar, I suggest you go browse the thread for 2801 pics/replays and see what the tank does in action.

Pick on French tanks whenever possible; your derp can actually penetrate for massive damage.

The vk2801 definitely does not suck. Last night I was chasing one down with my T20 and although I killed it, he took 80% of health. HE might not be omg op anymore, but it can still do some serious damage.

Don't forget that the 2801, as a light tank, retains its camouflage whether it is moving or not. That's something... It's still large and chunky, though.

Some of my bestest games, I never fired a shot and was parked less than 100m from enemy lines while my allies dominated them unseen.

I tend to play my vk28 like an e8 sherman with the 105. I sit back and lob HE at everything I see and when I spot an opening or an opportunity I go in for the kill. I usually score around 3-4 kills per match with it.

It's a fun tank to play, but the credit earnings and repair bill are utter shit for a tier five!  Sold this thing as soon as I got my AMX 13-90 and not regretting it, plus I been killing plenty of VK's with it.  To make this tank even appetizing again they need to reduce the repair bill and increase the credit earnings ratio.
