I want to get the t-34 before the update and the T1 is the most direct route, but heard the m4 and e2 is good.
T1 or M4?

T1 is meh, haven't tried the M4 or Jumbo, but damn, that Jumbo's frontal armor is really hard for some of my guns to penetrate.

I know plenty of people who have gone for the M4 so that they can get an E2 and then go to the M6. Be forewarned, though: The M4 has less armor than the T1.

T1 is painful, but if speed is your goal, go through it. Cross-grinding the E2/M6 will just cost you more XP and creds.
Overall however, the Sherman is a VERY nice tank. One of my favs.

Which isn't saying much since the T1's armor isn't really any better.
You're basically playing lightly armored fast tanks either way in tier V, then more armored tanks in tier VI - of which the E2 has more consistent armor. But outside of the M6's 90mm, there's not really a lot of penetration available to you in any of those tanks until you get to the T29.
It's really your call whether you want to powerlevel your way through or really play those tanks on your way to the T29.

t1 hit has a lot of haters, but it is all in how you play it. i got most guns tier 5 and under (kv's are an exception) bounce if you know how to angle yourself. when you are hit, i got a lot of critical's with no damage. once you get suspension, the tank is faster then most tier 5 heavy's and once you get the best gun, you mash up just about everything in tiers 1-6.
i remember i game i had with it just after the french tanks came out, and none of them could pen me. i got 5 kills, steel wall, sniper and was 1 tank away from a confederate. it was one of the games i remember the fondest. (i took no damage and got a steel wall? i mean wow)

T1 = too big, too slow, doesn't have armor or gun damage to compete, anything on the map can kill you, even scouts.
M4 = same gun as the T1 and can get out of the way when needed.

I liked M4 and T1HT a lot. But M6 is just awesome, believe me. As long as you understand that you are a support tank, it becomes an excellent option. Its huge tracks can absorbe heavy damage (even direct side hits from arty: sometimes no damage, or just detracking!). The 90 mm gun is an awesome option: excellent penetration, good damage and ROF and very accurate (you can rotate your turret, even move, and the aim doesn't spread too much). The M6 is very fast for a heavy tank, too. And (this is common to other "bad" tanks) higher tier players don't realize that you are a real threat until you take 40% of their health with 2 or 3 side hits.
My advice: enjoy every tank and every tier. Don't rush it. Or you will become bored sooner.

Go the T1 route. You need that final engine to make the most of the T1 and M6. Plus, T1 is good practice for the M6, while Jumbo is just completely different.

Ok man , A lot is personal preferance but if you want a better payoff in the end of the line go with the T1 , Granted that it is a really tough grind threw the T1 and the M6 but it will pay off with the T-29 and later . If you go with mediums i wouldn' suggest it . My King tiger with the E-75's 105 can mess up anything that steps in my way aside from Tier 10's . The American Tier 7 + Tend to offer a little more resistance then the Pershing or the Patton . Personally go with the T1 but it will be a tough grind and if you are not devoted you will sucumb to the will of the Sherman

From what I read so far, I think t1 maybe the best route for me.
Since the m6 is similar the t1 will give me practice goin through it.

I say T1. Prepared me for the M6 and I also had my first ever Top Gun with it. (I dunno if that's becasue all my sixth kills were robbed or that I was just unluck, or just a noob)
The T1 Dominates in low tier matches. Aaaand I got a pic (Sadly not a Replay) to back it

Sniper, Steel Wall, Top Gun, and a Reaper ribbion

No M6 is better then the T1 i beat T1 every time
M4A3E2 Jumbo Sherman beats the T1
T1 is good target practice even my T20 can take out a T1 easy

I am at the same crossroad now. The advice differ, everyone has a different opinion and experience. Since I like to try everything, it seems I'll go this way: M4 > E2 > T1 > M6...

Don't decide on the exp cost alone though -- I have heard more than a few people say that the M4 Sherman + Jumbo grind is much more enjoyable, and in some cases, faster than slogging through the T1 HT.
