Was wondering if I have enough time to grind to the IS4 from the T-28 before the Soviet Heavy switch. I'm a non premium player, play about 2 hours a day. I have a few thousand frees xp I can dedicate to the cause if neccesarry. So, do I have enough time?

Honestly, it depends on delays and your skill.  I would say there is a 70% chance of "no", but its possible

Hard to say, who knows if that patch will go in when they say.  Gut reaction would be you might still be grinding the IS-3 when it is released, but hell why not just go for it and see what happens.

Go for it, you'll at least get the KV and KV-3 knocked out before 0.7.3 (if that's when it happens) arrives in... ?March?

You probably have about 3 months at the least.

Look at your previous rate of xp gain, do you think you can get 500k xp in one line over that time?

The thing is, I've been grinding for the Patton. I would be willing to temporarily put that on the back burner if it means I'll get a free tier 10, but otherwise, it's not worth it.

I am doing the same thing.  As others already stated if you are wanting to go there anyway then one not go for it now.  Save the free exp. in reserve till the very end, in case it gets you over a hump in the last day or so before the patch comes out.  Be a shame if you get really close and then find if you only had some free exp you could do it.

Having said all that I think you should decide now whether or not you finish in time (and I'm thinking it's a very slim chance), you will still be happy with yourself and your decision.  There are some tanks along the way that many people would acquire and never sell again so it's all good.

Also keep in mind there might be considerable time saving measures that can be taken as you grind, you might wish to investigate and spend some time on those more closely too.  An example might be (I'm not saying this is best, other people would know more than me)with the KV - I think you want to spend time grind the KV2 turret because I think there might be an advantage (having this in your garage) with the same IS4 type patch.  If so, do you want the 107 or 152 gun, I would not waste time grinding both.  If there is no patch advantage to having the KV2 then I would not even bother with either of those guns, just grind for the KV3 fastest path.

For your goal of getting the IS4, hell no.  Not from the t28.  Getting through a stock KV is hard, let alone getting through the KV3, IS, and IS3.  HOWEVER, you can get the KV and KV3, and get 2 free tanks once the split comes out.  That's what I did, and it took me about 2 months with similar play time as you (your average XP is a bit higher, but not by much, my KV's average is 300).  The tier 7 KV3 should be worth it, and the KV-2 will make the S51 grind a bit easier.

I'm sort of in the same position. I have the KV and KV-3, but was wondering if it's worth the grind to get the IS-4. Not knowing when the patch is coming out is the biggest factor. Last night I decided to give it a shot and will begin the journey tonight. Maybe I'll start a "progress report" thread to keep me motivated. Should be fun...

They haven't even announced the 7.2 public test yet, and the Soviet tree changes are only "tentatively" scheduled for 7.3.

Just a reminder, they were "tentatively" scheduled for August/September 2011, too, which is why everyone (including myself) panic-ground to the IS-4.

Best guess is that at this point 7.2 will go live in mid-to-late February at the earliest, with 7.3 being mid-to-late March into April.

Maybe. The hard part, beyond the xp grind, will be paying for all of it unless you have a good amount of cash already or money making ability. I finished the IS4 grind a while back and it gets expensive with ammo from the 122mm on the IS forward. With the 122 and every gun after it will cost you 1025 every time you pull the trigger. That's not a lot by itself but added in with repairs, consumables, and the cost of the tanks themselves is where you run into the real problem paying for all of it.

KV3 1,078,200
IS 1,424,000
IS3 2,568,500
IS4 3,561,000

If you can afford it then yeah it's easily doable. I did it in less than 2 months, non premium, while grinding other tanks along with the russian heavies, and that was starting fresh with a T26.

Like a few others said at the least I'd get the KV and KV3.

Good luck.

Definitely not without buying gold and converting to lots of free EXP.  Hey, give it a shot, you might just make it.

If it's only 2hrs a day, then I would say it is rather unlikely, but then again from my stand-point of also being a free user, I suck at power grinding.  I suppose I'm just lucky I got my T34 on time, the damn tank took me well near 3 whole months to get from the T32!  So lets just say I'm definitely not getting the T30 before the next patch :/.  A lot of other players are way better than I am and it would seem they do well at grinding quickly, so I wont outright say you have no chance, but the distance between the IS-4 and the T-28 is more than substantial.  So do your best, maybe put in an extra hour or so, but don't get your hopes up.  As some parting advice, What I do for power grinding is to set up a daily quota based off of a division of the "XP Needed" and the "Aprox. time (in days) until the patch in question"  so Total XP/days left.  This value will tell you the minimum amount of xp you will need each day in order to achieve your grind goal.  So recording your initial and final xp yeild each day in a log would help you keep track of all this.  I also developed this equation:  Needed XP for Research Item = Sum of free XP and vehicular XP * [x - (Needed XP for Research Item - Vehicular XP)] + [0.1 * (x - Vehicular XP)].  When you solve this equation for x, the value of x will represent the bare minimum value that your Vehicular XP would be when you can finally unlock a Research Item.  Well I hope I helped in all this, and Good luck on the grind!:Smile_honoring:

Hi,

I think this is my first post in the forum, and I have been reading you guys a lot so far.
I am doing the same grinding as the owner of the thread. I will say it's still possible. at least worth a try.

A/ on the way to IS-4, you still have two things to gain.
   1/ the KV-2, you will get a free t5 tank + slot + crew
   2/ the KV-3, you will get a free t6 tank + slot + crew
that I will say it is right at the corner.

B/ even you can not get the IS-4, you can enjoy the IS, IS-3. I suppose you can basically get the IS-3. they may postpone the release too.

current having IS - upgraded gun, turret, suspension, radio, still have 26k to get the engine, 80k to unlock IS-3
when I am on IS-3, I need suspension(14k), turret(14k), BL-9(44k), and finally IS-4(170k). I will save all my free xp for the BL-9, then I will say god bless me, will have to put the final radio(8700) later, of course keep the IS-3.

my average xp on KV-3 is better than IS. hope I will catch it up later. or even make it better on IS-3.

I got the KV and KV-3 just cause they were half off, and now free tank slots, what's the benefit for grinding to the IS-4?
