First I admit I'm not the best players out there, or among the good players. I consider myself an average player.
So why am I talking about tactics? Because like many players out there, we don't become the better player unless we learn from our mistakes, and watching your replay is the key of this process. This is where we should develop a mindset of what we should do next time in a game like this. In other words, adopt a better tactic.
Type 59 may be treated differently across players who own one. I seen some people play it as an assassin or reaper, some play it as a scout, some play it as a sniper, and some play it as a brawler. What I think is that Type 59 is a versatile tank and depending on the game you are in, you can act as one or many or those roles. My personal favorite is to play Type 59 as a brawler.
Most of the times I play the 59 as a brawler. Now I must say learn to be a good brawler isn't easy, in a dual situation, a good opponent can easily out maneuver a rookie Type 59. So you may find your survival rate low on the path of becoming a good brawler. However, when you have learned the trick, you will find brawling is a much satisfying way to play a Type 59.
1. Brawling
A good brawler doesn't need to be a "fair" brawler. What I meant is: yes, a good Type 59 player can take on a KT, lowe, T44 or even some tier 9 German heavy one on one and survives in the end, but unless that's towards the end of the battle, you may not have enough HP left to fight the rest of the battle. That's why it's always better to have more hands on your side.
One on one with a KV5 towards the end of this video shows I was very close to dying (yes I messed up a little bit too)
More fighting less (5 vs. 1 M26, I fought the early part alone) and I have more HP left to comfortably take on the rest of the enemy team
In two clips above, I used the trick of side hugging when dealing with a strong and stationary enemy (a same or higher tier enemy). I have seen this trick work very well on dealing with German heavies due to their high gun depression. You can see clearly in the second clip that even though the M26 pull off one solid shot on me, but I was able to confuse him long enough so he can't shot me as fast as i can shot him, and that's important when you are in close quarters, always keep moving and shoot the weak armor when you can.
However, side hugging doesn't work well if the enemy is backed to a wall, or if the enemy is not alone, by side hugging, you also exposing your side to other enemy (if you expose your right side without WAR, then you just got yourself a ticket to the heaven), make yourself an very easy kill for the enemy. Wolves don't make a move unless the prey is alone.
That's what you do with a stationary enemy, how about dog fighting? In the first clip where I rushed through the first group of enemy defenses and killed a StuG, remember do not run a straight line. keep randomly juking left and right and seek objects to break the line of sight with the enemy. when running away from an enemy, speed is secondary to agility, juking left and right may hurt your get away speed but it can save your life, in the first clip i avoided two shots by juking.
Same theory goes with running towards an enemy, don't run straight, keep juking make sure they won't have a chance to track you, and when you get close enough, aim for their track first. then the enemy is stationary and you can either make a circle of death of just do the side hugging of death. Tracking an enemy also screws up his aim dramatically, just watch the following clip to see how tracking a enemy saved my life.
2. Sniping
Type 59 doesn't have a powerful or accurate gun for its tier, so I really can't recommend people to use Type 59 for long range sniping. However, on close range, Type 59's gun can do some serious sniping if you play it right.
In this clip, you can see one most important thing about sniping is relocation. This is important because enemy arty would love to see a stationary target on the map, do not be that T30 died at the beginning of the battle. Also, stay behind bushes to avoid being detected by the enemy. When you see a target, make sure exposing your position won't bring another enemy to shot at you.
Of course sniping can be fun when you got lucky, or let's just call it "practice more"
Only take shot at enemy you can do damage to. Or you just looking for trouble
3. Flanking
Type 59 is awesome for the job if you need a tank to flank the enemy. I suggest depending on the enemy type and number, you can either do some drive-by shooting or a peekaboo. Just remember, you don't have to finish the enemy off, once you see his gun is pointing at you, you want to either start juking or just pull back behind the cover, let your teammate finish the job. Or if you think you'd be better engage another enemy, go do that. Distraction is the goal of flanking. However, if the enemy isn't interested in you when you suddenly appear behind him, then make this into your favor by turning a flanking into brawling.
4. Rushing
Many people have heard or maybe experienced the devastating power of Type 59 wolf pack. But do you think the wolf pack would be as fearsome if the pack would be camping at base? Only a charging pack of Type 59 can do the maximum damage, that's why Type 59 players always platoon with each other. Rushing a wolf pack requires each member to work with one another, never separate from the pack or act differently, that only makes you the distinctive target in enemies' scope. Rushing is also risky if you underestimate enemies' firepower and number it could end badly. So I recommend you first find friends with Type 59 (or similar tank), make a plan together and practice.
However, If you are like me, rarely platoon with other people, then you may want to try solo rush or lead rush. Regarding solo rush, see the first clip and practice it on your own risk. I really don't recommend you do that.
Leading rush is a different story, if you have teammates willing to follow you (communicate with them before the match begin), depending on their tank, you may want to lead the rush since Type 59 has very good armor and mobility.
Remember, leading a rush is like rushing in wolf packs, except this time you are more likely to be shot at first, when you find the enemy team is focusing on you, find cover and let the low tier teammates draw their attentions. After a while, you may got out of cover safely and regroup with your mates. Please keep in mind that if your teammates are not willing to cooperate with you, don't risk it and play defensivly.

Hey 9mm, you look pretty skilled in your videos. I would consider myself a so-so player, but hevae just recently purchased the 59 and I'm still learning how to play it. I've only had what I've seen when I was attacked by them up until now to reference. Great post and even better videos. I have to ask you though.... where did you get the reticle (is it in game or a mod), and what are you using to show the enemies health bar and how much they lost per hit. Thanks

I am a fairly poor player and I appreciate your insights.
I would like to know how you fit your Type 59 for these battles, what modules and consumables. I noticed you hit really well even while moving.
Another question is are the mods you showed considered legal by WOT. If they are I certainly want to get them.

I equipped rammer, stab and WAR. Rammer and stab make sure I can fire frequently and accurately. WAR is just for protection since more and more players know where ammo rack is at on the Type 59.
About the mods, I don't know the answer but I'm not the only one using them. Since the developers allow weak spot skins, I hope these mods are also allowed.
