Changes in the World of Tanks in-game store

During the server restart scheduled for 11:00-11:30 UTC, premium tanks PzKpfw 38H735 (f) and PzKpfw B2 740 (f) will be removed from the World of Tanks in-game store.

Those who have purchased the specified vehicles prior to the stated time will still have them in the garage.

The reason for the removal is the introduction of the French Tech Tree. Historically the PzKpfw 38H735 (F) and PzKpfw B2 740(F) were French tanks, and they were placed in the German Tech Tree as captured vehicles.

If you would like to own the PzKpfw 38H735 (F) or PzKpfw B2 740 (F), you still have time to do it prior to the February 13th restart. In the future it may also be possible to obtain the above-mentioned vehicles through special offers, which will be announced in advance.

History Spotlight: British Ghurkas

Gurkhas are people from Nepal. Their name is derived from the Hindu warrior-saint Guru Gorakhnath.

During the war in Nepal during the year of 1814, the British failed to annex Nepal as part of the Empire, but Army officers were impressed by the tenacity of the Gurkha soldiers, and encouraged them to volunteer for the East India Company.

During the Indian Rebellion of 1857, Gurkhas fought on the British side, and became part of the British Indian Army.

The tradition of this recruitment continued into the British Army in World War I and World War II.

At the start of World War II there were 20 Ghurka Battalions; by the end of the war this number had grown to 45. During the War over a quarter of a million men from Nepal served in the British army.



The tenacity and ferociousness of the Ghurka solider is legendary, and they were one of the most feared foreign troops fighting for the British. Ghurka soldiers were raised for war from a very young age, not unlike the Spartan soldiers of Greece. Their short stature was an advantage in many of their stealthy tactics. The Climate of Nepal, home of the Himilayan mountains, provides very thin air. To compensate for the lower oxygen levels, the people of this region have thicker blood that allows their blood vessels to carry more oxygen to the body. In a Military setting this means that the Ghurka soldiers often demonstrated super human levels of endurance.

Many of the Axis troops feared the Ghurkas. Stories began to circulate amongst the Axis troops of shadowy figures that would come at night. It was rumored that Ghurka soldiers would enter an enemy camp and slit the throats of many sleeping soldiers leaving just a few with their boot laces cut, so that they would wake up and know they could have been killed just as easily. This tactic made sure that these surviving soldiers would spread the word and sow fear among their brethren.

The iconic weapon of the Ghurka was the Kukri. The Kukri is a curved Nepalese knife, similar to the machete; the cutting edge is inwardly curved in shape and is the icon of Nepal. It was the basic and traditional utility knife of the Nepalese people. The Kukri made a very effective and fearsome weapon.



During the Battle of Monte Casino, Ghurka troops were ordered to assault the hill directly against a prepared position held by the elite German Paratroops. They bravely charged up the hill, over ground that was steep, heavily mined and under heavy fire. A small group of Ghurkas finally reached the walls of the Abbey, but were then pushed back down the hill. Over two-thirds of the Ghurkas committed were lost in this attack.

The Ghurkas continued to serve the British military throughout the war, and served both in Europe and in the Pacific. They gained the respect and admiration of their allies, and the fear and loathing of their enemies. They still serve faithfully today.

Any chance we can get any details on the server cluster update that happened recently?

Yes, it was actually moved to Washington DC, and we changed the main partner. This will give us a more stable server and better ping for the majority of players.

If you do change the design of the in game T110, will this further delay 7.2, or would you release 7.2 and then change the model later?

We could replace the model at a later date—depending on how much work it takes to accomplish; however, the T110 will be in 7.2 and will not hold up the release.

So we get to try out the WZ-111 on the coming test server? Does this include the Type 62 as well?

These will be Chinese server exclusive tanks.  They may be available in the test server but will not be released on the RU, EU, or NA servers.

Like everyone, I have experienced being hit while hidden behind 'indestructible' objects.

We have no evidence of such a bug. You may either be suffering from lag issues, packet loss, or your tank was partly seen even behind the 'indestructible' object (exposed parts of your suspension or turret, the gap between 2 closely standing stones, etc…), or you took high explosive damage from a round that landed close by.

Would that also mean the T34 will not be available in the shop when the 7.2 patch hits?

It will most likely not be for sale in 7.2; however, special offers in the store are a possibility for the future.

When will we have the ability to talk to talk to our platoon mates with the in game voice chat?

With Chat 2.0, this will be released in Q2 2012. It will also include a lot more features.

Are you guys looking at authenticators as an extra level of security that can be added to an account?

Yes, we are exploring additional account security measures, including authenticators.

Can we have this thread redirect to the EU Q&A? As the EU Wiki thread redirects to the NA one.

We have decided to go in a different direction. Vallter will continue to answer your questions as normal; however, I will pull some of the best or most intriguing questions and expand on those; getting some additional information in some cases. These will be compiled and released in our YAWR articles. This will delay the answers to some of the questions, but in turn you will get expanded and more definitive answers. Also, players that only read the main news articles, and do not follow this forum, will get more information on the hottest topics.

After the rebalancing (or to some people, “nerfing”) of HE ammunition, the VK2801 appears rather lackluster compared to the other two T5 Scout Lights due to its primary feature being the 105 gun, which is almost always used to shoot HE. Is there a chance for the 2801 to be reexamined, either for an attribute change to compensate for the less effective weaponry, or the possibility of it receiving another potential gun, such as the 7.5cm/L70?

Currently only T-50-2 has shown that it is better than the other scouts. In a few areas it is much better than the other Tier 5 lights. It will be either slightly reduced in effectiveness or replaced.

Secondly, we are planning to slightly increase the damage HE shells deal, which will compensate the HE mechanics changes impact on the gameplay. The number that is being played with at this moment is 20%, but it is subject to change during testing.

This may sound odd but why haven’t we been asked for our system information the way you have on RU? Or is that coming soon?

Normally RU side players have lower end PCs than the US players. So if we optimize the work for worst cases, the rest will receive a bonus in optional graphics settings.

Ode to your Favorite Tank

We are happy to announce the first February Art contest starting today! We all know that there is a special day in February, and we wanted to celebrate it by asking you to write a poem, a ballad, or maybe even a song for your favorite tank! We've seen many players send in poems about their tanks, and we wanted to give you all a chance to win some gold!

For this contest, please be sure to keep your poem no longer than one page (.doc, docx, .odt, .txt, .pdf). As a poem, ballad, or song, we expect the writings to have a certain rythmic quality to them, therefore, any prose or stories will be disqualified. You may even write a haiku if you so wish. There is no word limit, just the one page limit.

As for judging, the staff in the North American Wargaming.net office will read all the entries, and choose the top 10 entries. These will then be posted in the forum so that you, the players, can choose your most favorite poems.

Please be aware that you must choose one tank (SPGs and TDs are included) to write about. The subject of your poem cannot be World of Tanks, a certain type of vehicle (i.e. light tanks, SPGs), a battle, or anything of the like.

This contest starts today and ends on Friday, February 17th, at 11:59 PM PST (7:59 AM UTC Saturday).

Q: Actually about IS-4, I think it stinks... I smell odour of a weakest Tier X. How are you going to prevent it from being repeatedly raped by its paper front?
A: Will add him 100mm of front armour of course.

Q: Can we have at least Q/A similar to OL topic, but about WoB - maybe first in WoT forum, and later moved to WoB forum when it is ready? Please start EU/US common forum also for WoB, not only RU.
A: It will be up on due time. Patience.

Q: Will we see the second line of German TDs any time this year? Maybe what quarter they are expected in?
A: Difficult to say for sure, but definitely this year.

Q: Is there a negative impact of a T10 TD that outweights the benefits?
A: I don't see anything of the kind.

Q: All auto-loaders and auto-cannons have incorrect values both in game and on tankopedia. It was in the list of incorrect de​sc​ri​ptions we discussed recently, so you probably already forwarded it.
A: Unfortunately that wont be fixed in 7.2.

Q: About the accuracy value- what exactly is the unit you are handling with? meters, yards, any other? I am also wondering about the size... the difference between 0,25 and 0,5 is rather extreme. How exactly is that working? Could you give us some clearification?
A: The dispersion is given in cm per 100m, ie 0.25 means that at 100m shell can deviate by 0.25m from the center which is not that huge, while at 500m the dispersion is 1.25m and 2.5m for 0.5-guns. Thats quite a difference.

Q: Any plans to make TDs more useful/used in clan wars?
A: Tanks freezing anyone?

Q: Is there any imminent danger of the much anticipated British tech tree coming out soon? By that I mean just the initial release tree (Infantry/Cruiser/Lights)? I ask because I get the impression that the full tree isn't finished yet.
A: We are going to maintain certain gap between the trees plus we have to accomplish the announced revisions.

We wont see British tanks in the first half of 2012.

Q: Why don´t you support multicore option excatly?
A: That was also answered some time ago. While technically its possible to enable multi core support in WoT (of the same kind as in WoWP), the current Umbr technology for minor objects which limits the multi core possibilities. WoWP does not use it, since there are not that many objects to display in the sky. Supposedly in the new render we will be able to combine the two.

Q: Are the values like traverse speed and traverse speed affected by the crew skill i.e. if they are lower than 100% or only when the relevant crew member is killed?
A: Traverse speed is reduced when driver is taken out.

Q: Will some French tanks get better gun depression, especially AMX M4 1945, AMX 12t and AMX 50 100?
A: Most likely they will. We are considering this sort of adjustment.

Clan Spotlight - CL

This week, we get to hear from what seems to be another laid back, down to earth clan that have many great traits that I like. In the interview I was able to get the feel that they are truly dedicated to there clan and having it grow and prosper into something big that will last a long time. I always find it enjoyable to interview these type's of clans just for the fact that it goes to show there are more like minded people that have the same feelings I have towards there clans as I do with mine. Well I hope you enjoy reading this for it was enjoyable to sit down and talk to these guy's.



Q: Please tell us about your Clan. What brought your group together?

A: I created Clanless probably close to two years ago. I was into call of duty for a while, running clans there. Eventually I left and went into BattleField Bad Company 2
and started Clanless. From there, I kind-of got board of the game and then I found WoT Beta, and got into it and then I switched clanless to WoT clan.

Q: How long have you been formed?

A: We were formed for WoT for about a year and a half now.



Q: Is there a particular history or story behind your Clan name?

A: I guess it was a oxymoron, the clanless clan. It was a play on words where everyone is running around being clanless. It was more of a joke more then anything and have have looked into changing it a few times to possibly a more historic accurate name but everyone is saying, na stick with ClanLess.



Q: What insight or philosophy is the driving force behind your union? In other words, what motivates your members, what instills that esprit de’ corps so many clans seek?

A: I would say what keeps everyone going is that everyone here create friendships, online friendships, and allot of time we develop true friend ships. It's fun to come on and see what you can do and keep going forward and improve your self with friends.



Q: What leadership/management style can you share that has helped [-CL-] stay together as a vibrant and active Clan?

A: I like to call us a structured non-military style clan. There is I think as coordinate as you grow larger as a clan, I think between clanless and clans we server, we are at over 100 members. So at some point in time you need to start building structure. We do have a couple XO's that help out that I get bunch idea's off of, diplomat, and a few other officers that help out. But  about 95% of the clan are regular members that have the ability to come in and enjoy the game with friends.



Q: Many Clans play other games together as well, all for a variety of reasons. What brought your Clan specifically into WoT? What, if anything, would encourage [-CL-]'s continued gaming and expansion within WoT?

A: Its a game style that I have always liked. I have always liked games such as Risk, with its game style. So when this game came out, I looked at it and I started playing the beta. I really enjoyed what was there and then I met a bunch of like minded guys in game, roughly the same age, 30+, as well I had friends from other gaming communities that came as well, so we started building the clan at that time.



Q: What can we expect to see from [-CL-] in the future?

A:  Well I guess one of our high points to date is even though we are still a relatively a small clan, we have managed to crack the top 10 in clan wars for land ownage, and we were able to hold the amount of land with few members that we have compared to some of the larger clans. From here on out, we are going to continue working as a team and grow as a community and just enjoy gaming among friends.



Q: What are your basic requirements for application and membership in [-CL-]? Is there anything specific you look for in an applicant?

A: We have a age restriction to our clan, It use to be 30+ but now we have it set at 21+. Maturity and having the want to come in and enjoy gaming as well as folks that want to be serious about clan wars. We also do look for folks to have higher tier tanks but folks with lower tier tanks are allowed to apply and we will make room for them in clanless reserve.



Q: What council or advice would you offer those new to WoT? And the more experienced?

A: Stick to one or two lines and work up the grind. Platoon as much as possible. Get your self into a clan with like minded folks. For those that are more experienced, there is more to the game then fighting tanks, or running your tanks. There is a whole other side to this game when it comes to diplomacy, strategies. It's more of knowing who you can trust, and who you can't, what teams are friendly and what teams are not. So as far as the more experienced gamers out there, there is a whole other realm to the game out there.



Q: Since the release of Clan Warfare, how has it impacted/affected your Clan?

A: Before clan wars beta, we had put a cap at 20 or 25 members, but once CW beta came about, we felt that we need to bump up our membership a bit, so we bumped that up to about 60. Since then, we started a second clan so at the moment, I guess we are about 130 members. We went from being a small clan made up of a handful of members to a much larger clan but still keeping that small clan values. There is nobody that talks down to anyone, there is no one that cusses anyone out. We play as friends and we play to win.



Q: How has the most recent clan wars update affected your clan?

A: It's effect us negatively and I know its effect allot of other clans negatively time zone wise with the drop back of an hour. Most of our clan mostly consist of east coast and central time players and but we have a bunch in the west coast and where we are on the map, because of the time changes it eliminates allot of out west coast players from being able to participate.



Q: (For [-CL-] members) How has the release of CW Beta impacted you and your game play and/or style, ie; time, focus, team-play, etc?

A: Ozwald007 - I guess for me and the position I am in, its taken allot of my time due to the fact that I am involved with all aspects of the clan and the diplomacy, as well as maintaining what we have like TeamSpeak and the website. It's defiantly taking allot of my time but its also is what is keeping me so involved with World of Tanks. If I was not into clan wars and was part of a clan just grinding, I would have all the top tier, but being so involved keeps me busy and more involved with the clan aspect of things.

watson1002 - I have to agree with what Ozwald said. Your working hard to develop what you have tank wise, clan wise, every aspect of it. Your talking to people and in Oz's case making sure TeamSpeak is up kept.



Q: (For [-CL-] members) What suggestions would you offer to other tankers and Clans in the Beta?

A: watson1002 - It's a game. that's what it is, it's not real life, its not personal. Some people have trouble differentiating reality from a game, and those people make the game no fun for allot of people.

Ozwald007 - be respectful. We try not to trash talk, we like to make friends. There are clans out there in beta that will take it to far and become pretty nasty. Try to keep it friendly and fun. As watson said, its a game.



Q: Our final question: For those interested in applying to [-CL-], what is the next step?

So there was a mod that was posted on our clan website.  It was a mod that originated in the Russian server.  This mod gives the individuals game, the ability to change from dawn to midday to dusk to night.  When I first installed it on my pc and then went into game, my frames per second dropped from 30 to 12.  So my first thought was that the mod was causing a serious problem.    So I removed it from my pc and went back into the game.  It turns out that the FPS drop was due to xfire running in the background.  So I shut that down and re-installed the mod back into my game.  I set up a training room as to test it in a controlled environment.  It turns out that this mod is an exciting change to the game.  The changes are not the same in every map.  If you look here at Malinovka… AKA-Campinovka.    You can see that the differences are extraordinary. The contrasts, between the field views of daylight and when they transition into dusk and finally evening is amazing.

The screenshots from Steppes, you can see that the contrasts onto the fields, is even more remarkable than that of Malinovka.  The background mountains are highlighted even more and the details are more accentuated.  So you can see how it plays out in the different maps. The night scenery is not as dark, that enhances the scenery that I am talking about.  The Screen shots of the tanks demonstrate how the lower ambient lighting has an effect on the camoflage as well.  It accentuates the shapes of the tank as well.  The lines and shapes of the tanks are more clear and crisp.

If you look at these screenshots from El Halluf, you will notice that the changes during the transition are very subtle.   So the mod will not have the total effect of evening on every map.  Malinovka is so far the most drastic of the changes that I have witnessed.

Here are some shots of Arty shots from a GW Type E.  This is another example of the awesome dynamics that an evening map makes.  The fire ball from the cannon is an awesome sight to see.  If you could imagine what it must be like on a real fire line.  Not that war is a good thing, however it must be a sight to see.

I personally think that it would be a great idea if Wargaming implemented some night maps.  Use the existing maps.  Place them in the rotation along with its normal counterpart and let all the players enjoy what I have found to be a great effect in the game.  If anything it just changes up the gameplay and breaks up the monotony when doing either the daily doubles or when you are just grinding away for your next tank.

Top Gear *Preview* Voice Pack


I label it as a *Preview* pack because this is only a shell of what I am dreaming this pack to be. Right now I still have much much farther to go, watching/listening to every episode and getting as many quotes out of them as possible. My end goal is to have every season worth of quote in the voice pack, then add new quotes as each new episode comes out. This way the pack will have tons of variety as well as never quite get old since there will always be something new each season.

For now after producing this, if you guys like it, I will release newer Preview builds as I can get them built using both sounds that delph helped me with, as well as other episodes as I finish them.

Big thanks to delph for his work on getting me these sounds thus far.

The font is Eras Bold ITC, about the gradient if you mean the main tittle it a concrete texture layer overlay above the text, other smaller banner is just use gradient overlay.
