what is the best tier 4 tank

johndart49's Photo johndart49 Feb 27 2012

in your opinion what is the best tier 4 tank.

the reason i ask this is because we get recruits in our clan that arent quite up in the high teirs yet. i like to platoon with them and help them out as best as i can. im keeping 5 slots open for these lower tiers. any help on opinions of the best teir 4 would be appreciated. here is my low teir list of tanks that i am keeping.

t1- no tank
t2- pz2
t3-marder2
t4-????
t5-kv

edit: my previous tier 4 was a t-50 but it drags new players into too high of battles when platooned

Before the T-50, which can defy physics, I`d say the Pz3.

I'm sure it's not the "best", but I'm enjoying the snot out of my T-40. It's a TD of course, not a tank, but it's got decent speed, gun traverse to die for (for a turretless TD, that is), and the 76mm gets the job done!  If you like playing "tank" style and not "TD" style though, it's probably not for you.

I liked the M3 lee, but if you want to platoon in low tiers, I'd use a Marder II

i have hated all the Tier IV's ive ever played except two.. T-28 and the Lee.  The lee was just different and fun, while the T-28 was like a unarmored minivan with a pretty nice gun and oddly good speed.

If i had to buy one back, i would get the Lee.

My PZII and Marder have the best win ratios. Both are great if you know how to play them.

t-50 shouldnt count as thats a scout tank and will bring low tiers into higher tier games. i would recommend using a hetzer, good overall tank destroyer that i have 10 top kills with. barring that the pz-3 would be a good tank

They should go with the best tier 4 arty or tds the rest are not bad but won't be helpfull with the way match maker is.
for a list of the best over all for new players so they don't feel useless or the tanks work well enough in a battle

T-50
SU-85B
pz3
Leo
Hetzer
grille
M5 Stuart
M3 lee
T40
M7 priest
AMX 40

Best tier IV tanks are:
1.M3Lee - good armor and gun, no turret.

2.Su-85B - best gun, best view range(440m), good camo, but no armor, gun doesn't go very high or very low.
After playing that, Su-85 seems bad. Su-85(good credit maker) doesn't have view range with worse matchmaking, less accurate gun and not much armor or hp.

3. T-28 - very good in Junior Tank Companies, good gun, view range is better than M3 Lee, less armor.

Valentine, tough armour, rubbish gun, but never sees anything above tier IV :)

If you're talking about a tank for company battles, the T-28 and M3 Lee , IMO.

T-28 with the 57mm ZiS cannon you get with the T-34 cant' be beat especially with the machinegun-like rate of fire it puts out, it's also not really a slouch when it comes to speed and agility, just low-ish armour.

T-40 for TD's has exceptional performance, also gets a gun from higher tiers, with decent rate of fire and decent camouflage you can hide in the bushes and ambush significantly heavier tanks and blow them away. Just same issue as the T-28, low armour means that you can't take much fire in return.

Edit: If you're playing solo, I love my B1 Bis (although I might be the only one :D) great for aggro-ing the entire team to shooting at you with little effect. Just be aware that you are vulnerable to any artillery and TD's and have a weak-ish gun, but have exceptional accuracy and rate of fire to compensate.

This is a tuff question. Many are recomending the T-28 because of it's good gun but I remember hating the T-28 because it's terrible armor. I'm sure if I played it now I would do much better in it but as new tanker it was rage inducing. Since you have been around for a while it should be in good hands.

I love my little PzIII with the 75mm HE, it has some great speed and turning abilities. It can school a lone KV and it's MM isn't to bad as it's a medium that moves like a lite. The 5cm is a great little gun but will do 0 damage against some of the tanks it sees. Hetzer is a solid pick, I enjoyed the Lee as well but that was after I had played for months in TD lines.

None of the French tanks are worth it at tier 4 IMO.

Valentine is a good tier 4 too.

Firstly, Its ALWAYS the top tier tank. It has a VERY special matchmaker.

It has great all around armor, with decent sloping at the front and sides.

But however, it has a weak gun with low ammo storage of 61 shells.

Sure 61 shells may seem alot, but with a reload of 2.3s, its little.
Also, the gun is okay vs tier 3s but at tier 4s, the M3 Lee, Hetzer,AMX 40,Pz III and other Valentines become almost impossible to kill frontally.

T-50, it is so strong that it is better than any tier 5 non-light.
