JGPZ IV gun question

TheRealPaladin's Photo TheRealPaladin Feb 29 2012

Should I go with the best 75 or should I roll with the 88 when I get it?

88 for sure.

It makes this crap TD a little less crappier.

Depends on your playstyle. 75 L/70 is a bit more accurate and has higher ROF but lower alpha, 88 L/56 has a bit higher alpha but lower ROF. It's a matter of taste.

88mm. In my point, i think JagIV is a mistake of German TD. Bad gun, and bad frontal armor  <_< (TD often have good frontal armor)

Someone forgot to tell the StuG, JagdPanther, SU-76, SU-85b, SU-85, SU-100, SU-152, ISU-152, Object 704, Wolverine, Slugger and T-25-AT.

The StuG actually has decent frontal armor, IMO. 80mm at tier 5 is nothing to sneeze at. The main problem with it is that some of it is vertical, and some of it is sloped. A shot that might penetrate one part might not penetrate another. It's weird like that.

The one think the Jagdpanzer 4 going for it in terms of armor is that the upper front plate is pretty homogenous. The only real weak-point is the driver's hatch.

You forgot to add the Marder to that list.

I'd be a bit hesitant to include the M10 and M36 in there...  Bloody things have a habit of bouncing absurdly large guns on a pretty regular basis, in my experience.

I doubt you'll like any of the guns so pick the one you hate the least. If you absolutely can't stand the bouncing even give the stubby 105mm HE a try.

I hate those guys; they bounce my 88 L56 rounds constantly. I cannot wait to get the 15K XP needed for a jgpanther so I can finally get a decent penetrating gun.

I tend to snipe in mine, and actually prefer the 88mm. As a bonus, you can typically close-range 1 or 2-shot those pesky light tanks that go snooping for you.

I use the 75mm gun. The reality is, this tank has no good gun for what it's put up against.

I'm already aware that all of my options will be pure crap. I merely want the one that is the least crappy.

I would suggest getting to the 88 asap.  With the IV I found that I want to kill whatever I am shooting at so it doesn't have a chance to shoot back.  In that regard the 88 is probably better than the 75.  I haven't had too many issues with bouncing on the 88.  Then again I am not looking for them either.

I have 24K exp to go before I take my crew and walk away. Some people really like it.  I am learning what I can so it may be applied to the JPz when I get there.

You mean a matter of distaste?  Given how effective both options are on tier 6.

All German tier six mediums/TD suffer from the Devil's Bargain of choosing between the L/70 and the L/56, and then throwing ourselves at the mercy of the MM.  It all boils down to luck/personal taste.

It is as if tier six exists to test our dedication to the Fatherland.  :P

You will be sadly disappointed for the first 16,500XP.  The short 88 sucks EVEN HARDER on a tier 7.  Once you unlock the PaK long 88...  Good times.  And the short 105mm is somehow VASTLY more impressive than it ever was on the King Tiger.

Just don't go expecting to take many hits - 80mm of armor is just plain thin, sloped or not!

Doing alright in it so far I guess, got everything upgraded and put the top gun on it, kinda like being the tallest midget.  The gun is woeful for it's tier, I'm only having luck tracking big tanks for team mates to get em' penning things on the sides and rears, or just picking on the low tiers to free up the big guns.  People are right, it is a very tough TD to love, I just wanted to see what everyone was griping about, and for the most part, they are right.  The gun will vary on your play style, and also what your equipment, crew levels and skills are.  Good luck!!
