Rule the third: Don't all commit to the same side of the map. You have a minimap for a reason. If you're in a group of 12 tanks heading to the east side of the map, it might be a good idea to stop, turn around and go west instead.
I would just say that I used to do this a "lot", rush to the weak side alone, then I decided the best thing to do when this happens is to head the same way as the "12", sort of. Instead of continuing on with the "12", I now stop in a nice hull down spot near my cap such that I am on the cap side closer to where the "12" went with my arse pointing toward the "12" and my nose covering my cap, now I can cover my cap from a nice hull down spot. In this way I know my backside is relatively safe, and I got a nice hull down location...then I just await the rush of reds from the weak side and try to reset cap and or kill as many as I can. Always, some will stay on cap and some will come after me. But, if I had gone fully to the weak side then "all" of them would be coming after me. This breaks them up a bit in their hesitation with wanting to cap and lets me do more than I could against all of them...
-
Throwing yourself headlong into 3-4-5 enemies is just suicide most of the time...
Using this method of protecting the weak side has been much better for me...

Funny thing is, I've recently realized the same thing.  When I first encountered this sort of situation, I'd do my best to hold off the enemy team from whereever I was and usually die in about a minute.  When I see a flank is collapsing now, I try to get back to a good, defensible spot and hold up the enemy as long as possible, while spotting for arty and getting on chat for help.  When it gets untennable, pull out and repeat, trade real estate for some damage and time, eventually ending up back across cap...and hope arty pulled out from the collapsing flank in time.  At least that's what I try to pull off...usually get killed somewhere in there.  It's slowly dawning some of what has been said about keeping your gun in the game as long as possible.

I've started thanking my fellow player when I 'steal' kills from them.  I also let them know that the next one is on me.  Basically, I'm telling them that I'll ride shotgun with them and help in knocking out the next guy we run into, holding off on making the final shot.  Evens us out, and makes for a more effective team.

ps- Even with these great tips, some people will still suck.  They'll just suck less.   :harp:

Can someone tell me if the guy who does a majority of the damage on a tank gets more xp than the one who finishes him off?

The one time when it's not ok to kill the enemy when someone else did 99% of the damage is when that person has 5 kills.

This is so dependent on the battle situation. If your team is winning 14-3 is one thing. If your team is losing 7-9 (or realistically ANY time the match is not "in the bag") and you have a shot to remove an opposing gun from the field… take it.

I, for one, will never complain about a lost Top Gun if it means "WE WIN".

At the beginning of training camp every year legendary coach Vince Lombardi would step out in front of his team... experienced players, veterans, world champions... people who had played the game all their lives... and say "Gentlemen, this is a football."

This post isn't just good for brand new players.  It's the "this is a football" post.
