Reading all this just makes me want to leave work early and go play but alas, have to pay the bills. As a true noob (19 battles, lol) I'm glad I scouted out the forums a bit before getting to heavy, so much great info, hard to absorb it all but I can always come back and read up on it later, Thanks for all the info.

These rules should really be pinned.

No such thing as kill stealing. I play mostly Russian mid tiers with the 122, if someone takes the last 5 points of the kill they have just saved me 1000+ credits lol.

Well I am up to 251 battles already and almost have a .500 winning percentage.  I sincerely believe that I'd be well over .500 if more players read this intro/basics post.  Thanks again!

I've been trying to promote the "no such thing as KS" rule by saying "Good Job" or similar if I've hacked down an enemy and someone else gets the kill.

Rule the twelfth: There is no such thing as killstealing. To 'steal' something implies ownership in the first place. Ok, so, you did 99% damage to that tank when someone else finished him off. This is a GOOD thing. It means one less enemy tank, it means you get 99% of the XP for that tank's demise, and it means you don't have to wait yet another reload cycle before engaging the next enemy tank. It's a win-win for all. If I've knocked 99% off of that big mean enemy king tiger and you have a shot at him? Take the shot. By all means, kill that tank. I want you to.

Rule the thirteenth: Focus your fire. Don't spread your fire out. Five tanks at 20% will do five times the damage that one tank at 100% will do. If four tanks are fighting four tanks, the team that focuses their fire on the same target before moving to the next will always, Always win.

I'm the sort of player who, when I feel I have a tactical advantage, deliberately attacks organized platoons. This means that, due to my own idiocy, I am usually attacking several tanks at once. If a friendly AMX 12t pretty much falls from the sky and finishes off two of the 3-5 vehicles I normally find myself fighting, he usually has just saved me, and I thank him for taking those guns off the field when I get a breath. Because if I was attacking them, they were tactically significant.

The 13th rule is just common sense. Ran into a platoon of Types the other day that destroyed a tier IX IS-8 by tracking it and circling it. Notably, even though I cam rushing in out of nowhere and blew one of them up, they kept attacking the IS-8. They did defeat both of us, but we won that battle because the Type platoon was the enemy team's best players, and that platoon was effectively destroyed with one member out, one damaged to 56hp, and one damaged to 800hp.

Overall, +1.

This is so amazing! Lert is so cool. Anna_tankgirl is up there too. I gave both a +1. Could you add: no pushing off cliffs and out of cover? It's Ok to push a teammate up a hill or to the front lines, but after that - let them alone! I have several wicked SLOW tanks. I am so greatful of a push. The other day, a tanker 'Autograph' tried to push me out of cover. He said that it was just a joke. I wasn't smiling. I wasn't mad either. Just a game. But seriously, teammates need to be a teammate. Thank you guys and gals for your much needed information. I think that these rules could be read by even the experience tanker. It won't hurt. Well, just a little. Could put it in the academy videos?
Good luck, have fun and see you on the battlefield!  :Smile_veryhappy:

Here's one that's helped my play a lot over the last few days:

Keep calm! It sounds obvious, but you'd be surprised how easy it is to forget this when the shells start flying! When you panic, the only person you're helping is the enemy. Even if you're outnumbered and outgunned, take a deep breath and, for the love of whatever diety (or lack thereof) you choose to believe in, maintain trigger discipline! Angle your hull if you haven't already and fight a tactical retreat. Even if you don't stop them, you can hold the enemy back long enough to make a difference. And if you must die, make sure you take a companion from the enemy team with you to the great tank hangar in the sky.

Nice guide, +1 for you.

I would like to bring up an issue for the rule of "Kill-Stealing". It drives me nuts when some heavy or whoever goes out of their way to risk theirself to do the last 3% (Especially when this cost me a top gun :( ), and sometimes myself(What happens if the Grille shell lands a bit to his right on 'lil old me?); and indirectly the team because they delayed their support for whatever flank. So that's the difference between unproductive kill stealing & knocking out an enemy gun.

Example: I'm sitting in the steppes, encounter, north spawn; in my StuG III, with my binocs, rammer, & camo net on whittling a T1 Heavy I spotted, invisitanked the damage to (Otherwise you'd think he'd be aiming at me), and some guy in a Churchill repeatedly calls fire on the t1 (all of it misses since it was at 400 yards for them), and he pulls up next to me and takes a killing shot. He then proceeds back to the cap only now 100 meters to the south and gets blown to bits at some point because he was too close the the enemy.
So that kinda harmed our effort a bit if it weren't for the heavy already blown to bits on the other side, which might have been more psychological since no enemies went within 150 meters of his corpse to the next five minutes. Not sure which had a bigger effect.

Nonetheless, there's two types of kill stealing:
1(Good): Taking out an enemy gun so it doesn't give your team unsafe toys.
2(Bad): Going out of your way to kill a tank 1 second from death just to pad your kills/battle stat & ego.

I see a lot of people in pubs doing this and taking out an enemy just for their ego. Sometimes I'm the person who does this even though I try not to. Not the hugest issue with pub matches but something that should be addressed.

Edit: Dont have a replay for the example. I really should set it up to catch them. Not sure if it would do much since I do most of my WoT foruming on my iPhone.

Well now....that was amusing, and informative. I thought I had watched a tutorial that showed how to conceal ones self completely in a bush leaving just a highlighted outline of your tank so you could see where it actually was situated in the bush....Not so ???

you know... beginners aren't going to read these.

it's mostly common sense the things that you listed, something which 7 year olds lack

I'm not complaining, I get to have 5-10 kills a low tier game
